Old TV = old roku =no JWB

Recommended Posts

I have an older HD TV that uses DVI and component inputs. I bought a new ROKU for JWB with a hdmi to dvi cable but there is a problem with my dvi jack because I do not get sound. So I took it back and found and old roku that uses components but the old roku does not allow for new channels to be added from the device.

I found a way to add JWB by adding it through my computer but it is asking for a broadcast number. Has anyone else had to go through this process and if so were you able to get a Broadcast number?

We just do not want to get a new TV and we want JWB available for family study and other things.....help please. :)

Just use your computer to watch it?

Can you hook it up with a coax cable directly to the tv? If its that old it might be the only way to get it to work. I dont know what  ROko is so dont yell lol.

I can and do watch on Computer. But gathering the family to stand around a computer is not practical and I doubt pops who is 85 could stand that long. To take advantage of JWB like we would like to (without spending an arm and a leg) has been a challenge.

I am looking for a broadcast number and do not see how making that number would be bad since it would allow more people to see it.

Again I appreciate the advice there and would never "yell" just looking for knowledge. Its the WT lesson in reverse. The family sees the need to gather together to enjoy the JWB as a family so the understand is there but we lack a little piece of knowledge and are wise enough to look for a solution....we have one little fact missing.

help please someone,

thx!

I was assisting a brother setting up his ROKU and using a HDMI cable, he to had no sound. The problem turned out to be the HDMI cable he bought cheaply from Walmart, We took it back and bought one of better quality and his setup now works fine, So, try a different HDMI cable. See if that is the issue.

Hi, What ROKU did you buy?

A HDMI to DVI cable should produce sound. It may of been a faulty lead. I would probably get the new ROKU back again from the shop and make sure you buy the correct leads for it so it produces sound.

There are various ways to do it. I think this would be better than trying to figure out how to configure an old ROKU box.

Hi Brother Larry,

I read your plight and had to laugh......I. have a older TV with a converted box attached to watch "free" TV. Well, the converter box died, so, I brought another one. I'd hooked it up, and turned it on.....and no signal on TV, double checked my connections everything was good, the converter box had the green light to indicate it was working.......guess what........now the TV IS NOT WORKING!

Now the DVD, Home Theater & VCR players that's connected to the same TV works just fine.....go figure... Now, it I go and buy a new TV, my old DVD, Home Theater & VCR players will not work, because they don't have the "HDMI" connections, LOL

The system is designed to force everyone to eventually buy all new TV, DVD, & Home Theater if you want to watch TV and movies.

That goes for computers too, Gone are the days for keeping things until they just break down. LOL.

The DVI input on your TV is for video only. It is usually paired with another input like a headphone jack for audio. Is your "old Roku" on the list of supported devices on http://www.jw.org/en/online-help/jw-broadcasting/?

The Roku 1 and Roku 2 are both current generation Rokus that have composite output that should work with most TVs.

Perhaps it's best to go "old school" and download the broadcast to a DVD that can be used in a DVD player. There's a monthly thread with links to download each broadcast to make it easier on you.
