The number of Americans seeking first-time unemployment benefits fell last week, a sign companies are laying off fewer workers and the economy continues to steadily add jobs.

Initial claims for unemployment benefits, a measure of layoffs across the U.S., declined 8,000 to a seasonally adjusted 276,000 in the week ended May 30, the Labor Department said Thursday. Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had expected 279,000 new claims.

claims have been below 300,000—a historically low level—for 13 straight weeks. A broader measure designed to remove volatility—the four-week moving average of claims—climbed 2,750 to 274,750.

The persistently low level of layoffs suggests the labor market is steadily firming nearly six years after the recession ended.

part of the "security claim?"

Security claim? I am not sure what the question is. This is a claim for unemployment - as they were laid off work and are actively seeking another job.
