Catfish

I'm rather intrigued by Catfish, the TV show. Yes, I've read the critics that the show has been edited. No doubt, they take unlimited footage and need to edit it for the time frame.  Catfishing comes from the seafood industry practice of shipping codfish stacked alternately with catfish. Stacking codfish on top of each other would turn the texture of the codfish into mush.  So ,the connotation developed into representing oneself as an alternate identity ( especially online). I am specifically impressed by the tactics the two documentarists (Nev and Max) use to track down people behind the professed identity on Social Media. I do not communicate with anyone on Social Media that I don't already know. I only opened a FB account when I had a book signing, and eventually tapered off the main "Status" update, and communicate only with my family members by PM (inboxing). I chose not to put this subject on TV, etc, b/c it is publicly visible, and I do not want to be in a conversation with someone I don't know. So, it might seem ironic that I have joined this forum,at all, but I believe all members here are really my Brothers and Sisters and that the moderators do an excellent job of screening. I especially appreciate when brothers and sisters post their own pic. What is your take on Catfish, the TV Show? Am I being reeled in?

I find it a interesting show. A lot of it does happen. They have more of the at least real people ones. The ones on Dr. Phil make me so sad, and sick. I don't get how women (grown older women) do not know the difference between a french and african accent. My husband says cause they have never met people from these countries in real life, and I'm like, but they have a tv right? They are old enough to be alive in the 1980's the height of the USA's infatuation with France... all those TV shows visiting France during the 80's didn't give them enough insight on what one would sound like? lol But, seriously people if after you spoke on the phone two times some is now in jail or stuck with out a passport in Africa and needs your 5G-100G's, and is saying he loves you, it's a CATFISH! SCAM! lol uhg. And some of these women cut ties with the family they have in real life mad at them because their family is telling them this is a scam!
