Spelling auto correction

Recommended Posts

When I am replying from my iPod, this crazy thing keeps trying to insert words that it 'thinks' I'm trying to type! If you don't hit the little 'x' to close the suggested word ( and that x is so tiny!) it inserts automatically. I have to figure out if I can turn that option off!

I don't always notice until I am seeing the full post on the thread.

I was sending a pm and I just caught it before it changed my tag name "Tazzy" to "Gassy"! :laugh:

So if you get a message from "Gassy" -- that's me missing the autocorrect insert!

Spellcheckers are really funny at times. My sister - who works for the local Police once sent me an article from one of the Police public information leaflets. It was supposed to read:" A 'Krooklock' on a steering-wheel, visible through the front car windscreen/windshield, is a very good deterrant to the would-be car thief." Except the spellchecker had replaced the "Krooklock" with Crocodile ( well it would work too!!?!):eek:

Thompson is a common surname here and the spellchecker always wants to put Tomcat, so I occasionally leave it in for our savvy friends who know what's happened!:clown:

I sign off my emails to friends 'Best wishes, Helen and her little pet lovebird Timmy' and the spellchecker keeps suggesting replacing lovebird with ovenready bird!!??:upset:

I have a love hate love thing for autocorrection. When I make a type and I know I don't have to go back and fix it, it is great. When it decides to change EVERY letter of the word into another word, then I get frustrated.

I am trying to see if there is an British English spellchecker...because it highlights words as wrong..such as reguards ...colour...etc etc...but they are not wrong. So then I get confused which is the right spelling...of different words.

And I thought the war was over. I had the same problem except in reverse. I didn't know that Queen's English and American English was so different. I couldn't understand for example why someone who was obviously very Spiritually minded couldn't spell Organization. "S" A very kind brother let me know that there are still some tender fealings about the publications being printed only in American English. So I got educated with a translator:

Yes it's funny how a big Atlantic divide has meant some things didn't move on in America and other things did. The 1960's movie My Fair Lady shows Professor Higgins teaching Queen's English, but singing 'I've gotten used to the way she says good morning every day'. Gotten as a past tense was dropped in UK English after the 18th Century, but still in use in America. Yet we keep the old French ways of spelling words the Normans brought here in 1066 and the Americans have simplified their spellings eg: Theatre and Centre to Theater and Center. Then trying to describe a car to an Amercian when we have different words: Bonnet/hood, windscreen/windshield; bumper/fender.Funny old world is the English one, how the mongrel of a language has developed on different continents with different cultures.

  • 1 month later...

I had to do a talk that included explaining what the Day of Atonement - Yom Kippur pre-figured in Christ. The spellchecker got to work on it and I had the prophetic significance of the Great Day of Tom Kipper in the Jewish Calendar !!??::o:lol1:

These are too funny ::o:lol1:

I sent a text to my son's school advising them that he was attending a Troilus (religious) convention. Guess they presumed he had a thing for Shakespeare.
