I just heard an expression on a TV program that reminded me of one I have used for years. This thread is for expressions you like that get some point across ....

 

When I used to do carpet (I cleaned, repaired, dyed, and installed) we used to tell some of the apartment managers when they wanted us to save some really worn out carpet:

I can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear - just a better looking sow's ear

 

The one I just heard was:

Yeah, and you can put lipstick on a Gorilla - but it's still a gorilla.

When I have a talk about elderly brothers, I always say there are no old Christians. There are young Christians with little experience and young Christians with more experience. A sister who is in her eighties says she is not old, rather she has accumulated a lot of youth along the years. :lol:
