The old PC is not connected to the Internet now, we re-used the 56k modem in a later model. It hadn't enough memory to cope with much more than text emails and Dad's an absolute novice who is not bothered about that yet. If he did get into that, we would get him a laptop. However, occasionally Dad has tried to install some software and found that it tries to connect to the Internet to register and because it cannot, all kinds of error messages come up and stopped the installation, so he had to uninstall the software. Don't know if that would be relavent to any RAM losses?

I've never been into a PC, so I looked on Youtube to see what RAM Sticks look like and how to clean the PC out with dry air and clean rubbers and non-metal feruled squirrel-hair brushes and keeping grounded so you don't put static in there. I think I get the hang of it, so we will have a go at getting the dust out and carefully stroking the RAM contacts with the clean rubber and hopefully not make any expensive mistakes.

Thank you:flowers:

My question: Why don't they make computers to write that so we can actually understand that sort of message or know what to do?

Because Microsoft in all of it's arrogance doesn't feel you are qualified to work on your own computer. They also do not release their base code (kernel) to anybody in fear of someone making a copy of something they most likely stole in the first place! :)

So if it was in plain English, we might be able to figure out how it all works together, and they can't have that.

The plan was for you to submit this error code to them and they would send you the solution. But that NEVER worked. Since most of their customer service "reps" are in India, good luck getting a helpful answer from them. We techs have had to learn as much as we could from experience and we share that among ourselves.
