This was a pretty amazing video. Didn't know how diverse lightning can be or that it affected the upper atmosphere the way it did. Very interesting watch.

Interesting thing is about hail - is that what we get in snowstorms we think is hail is NOT hail. Hail can only form in warm cells like Thunderstorms.

When you dissect hail stones (larger ones obviously) you get layers and layers of ice formed about the dust particle that look exactly like tree rings.

What we get in cold fronts are ice balls - or collapsed snowflakes and when dissected does not have the dust particle as a nucleus and is very much like an ice cube you get from the freezer.

So they still don't know how lightning is generated, it's a "meteorological mystery". Fascinating!
