Sinkhole at Louisville, KY Zoo

Some are thinking this sinkhole may be related to six earthquakes in Tennessee last week.

Much of the zoo sits on top of Mega Cavern.  Both the zoo and Mega Cavern are closed until deemed safe.

The Louisville Zoo remained closed Thursday while investigators work to learn what caused a football-field-sized sinkhole to open in an undeveloped part of the zoo.

Zoo staff found the sinkhole about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday during a routine walk-through, zoo spokeswoman Kyle Shepherd said. No people or animals were hurt, and no buildings were damaged, Shepherd said.

The hole was found in an undeveloped part of the zoo. Officials said no animals were injured and there was no damage to any buildings.

A zoo spokesperson said engineers are on site investigating.

So glad to hear that no animals were killed or injured...these sinkholes are such a scary phenomenon..so sudden, unpredictable, and you never know where they'll happen next. And there's almost certain loss of life to anyone caught in it..
