Auschwitz - only if you can emotionally take it. You can get a train to Kraków. Once you visit Kraków go to Kazimierz - a Jewish part of the city and Wawel Castle in Kraków

I can also recommend visiting the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Wieliczka near Kraków.

Other nice cities are Wrocław and Gdańsk.
It is also close to Prague in Czechia (former Czech Republic).

Let me know if you need further information and I can even try to organise a guide for you.

<Pierogi - Many restaurants will translate this as filled dumplings or ravioli but neither term really does the Pierog justice. Though almost every Eastern European lays their claim to being the inventor of Pierogi, we don't recommend you use this as a case of discussion after you've had a few vodkas - it's an argument you're unlikely to win. Pierogi are crescent-shaped parcels filled with any one of a number of tasty fillings. They can be crispy (smazone) or boiled (gotowane) doubling your number of choices.

Savoury

Ruskie (Russian) - The most popular and well-known, these are filled with potato and cheese and are an excellent place to start for the cautious>

Haven't been to Poland but I thought I could join in with the fun.

And the name does not come from Russia. It comes from Rus, which is a historical land that used to belong to Poland. So that food has nothing to do with Russia.

Free thinker.

I would love to visit Auschwitz. I have just discovered that 6 of my Jewish ancestors were put to death there on 1 Dec 1942.  It made it more real for me than ever before.

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

Also, you can get https://www.revolut.com/ this pre-paid card. It works with an app on your mobile phone. You can use it as your ordinary card everywhere. They have the best exchange rates and you can pay in local currency. Do not exchange money at the airport. Do it in less popular places as the exchange rates are insane at the airport.
