I heardĀ this on the scanner earlier today. Being a former rider myself it madeĀ meĀ cringe. šŸ˜¬ Makes me always remember when I was knocked off my bike and I was thrown to the ground. šŸ˜¬ And I was just sitting at gasĀ pumps.Ā

Ā

Only about 2 blocks from my house.

Ā

Sure hope they had helmets ā›‘ on.Ā

"Sure hope they had helmets ā›‘ on.Ā ļ»æ"Ā  I justĀ learned a helmet is no longer necessary in Michigan as of 2012 providing certain requirement are met, 21 years of age at least $20k in medical coverage, passed a safety course or been riding for at least 2 years, I haven't ridden since 1985 when I was in an accident in Kentucky, I'm glad I was wearing a helmet, and also in 1968 ( my first bike as a teenager)Ā  missed a curve in the road at night and rolled on the shoulder, also wearing a helmet in Mich. they had helmet laws back then and I'm glad they did! Now when my wife and I visit her mother in Bowling green,Ky about 90% of the riders we see are not wearing!

Riding used to be one of my favorite things to do. I have had many motorcycles, 20 or more...I loved to ride...

Ā

The thing, my own action, that caused me to stop riding was when I was riding my 750 Honda 4cyl, kinda tuned up and very fast, in between two semi-truck trailers.

Ā

I was on my way to work, about 6:30 AM, I saw the trucks in front of me and I knew that we were on a very long curving 2 lane section. I didnt want to wait that long so I geared down and opened it up. I was going over 135mph when I hit the gap between the trucks, I had about a foot or so clearance on either side. We were on a curved road so I could not see the road in front of me. I could have touched both trailers at once if I had reached out. I did not...

Ā

I was in between the trailers only a couple of seconds or so, when I came out one of the drives hit his airhorn loud and long. That kinda got my attention and I throttled down and rode the rest of the way to work at the speed limit. Him honking at me made me realize what a stupid thing I had just done. I was married with 2 young daughters at home and I could have very easily been killed, leaving them without a husband and a father.

Ā

I sold the bike the next weekend and I havent had one since. That was in 1986.

Those that donā€™t wear helmets arenā€™t even good organ donors.

Ā

Iā€™d be scared to death to even attempt not wearing a helmet.Ā

Ā

Everyone qcomplains about their rights...itā€™s their right not to wear helmets or seatbelts.

Ā

i always say, well, itā€™s their right to die as well.
