A security firm has discovered 15 dodgy Android apps on the Google Play Store - and together they've been downloaded by users more than 1.3 million times.

 

The 15 in question look like 'utility' apps but they are actually adware that generates large, intrusive ads onto our devices, according to a report by the firm SophosLabs.

I haven't got any of these thankfully.

But they are advising to not download anything that doesn't have reviews?

Isn't it easy to generate reviews? And people who downloaded them may review them as working well.

My simple suggestion would be to look at something that has 500,000 or more downloads, with thousands of reviews.
I saw one site where the reviews were possibly friends or workers to fudge the figures and give 5 star reviews.
This becomes more difficult to manipulate when there are millions of users.
So look for big numbers of downloads, then check the 'negative' reviews...

I do not have any of those apps either ...

 

I am not one to fill my phone with apps anyway .... I do wish I could delete the bloatware the providers and phone makers put on the same way I can delete regular apps.

Me too!! So many I don't want/need but can't delete or move to SD card.
