Is there a CTRL key in a tablet?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a tablet anymore, so I'm not up to date like everyone else is. I only have a Windows laptop, and I know how to do everything on it. But with a tablet or an iPad, is there an equivalent to the CTRL key? How about other keys on a Windows computer? The ALT key? The "F" keys at the top of the keyboard? The FN key? ESC key....?

The reason I ask: I sent an email to someone with a tablet (or iPad) and the type was too small. On a Windows computer there's a way to enlarge the text: Hold down the CTRL key and press the + key. But how do you do the same thing on a tablet or iPad?

To do that you just pinch to zoom (like you do on the gallery of a phone to enlarge images) - It works almost everywhere

You can install a keyboard with all those keys though (Just android not iOS) And they will do the common tasks like CTRL+C and CTRL+V to cut and past

Other functions will depend on the app you are using

But generally you won't need those keys because there is a touch friendly counterpart for all the functions

Are you referring to a physical or on screen keyboard (OSK) for a tablet? An OSK will typically only have letters, not functions. A physical keyboard (I have the Logitech K480 www.amazon.com/dp/B00MUTWLW4/) attached to a tablet will allow you to use some alternate functions from the F# keys. Android supports some Ctrl/etc type commands, but I don't believe that font size is among them. I may be wrong. https://www.howtogeek.com/175267/the-htg-guide-to-using-a-bluetooth-keyboard-with-your-android-device/ https://www.pcworld.com/article/184656/android_keyboard_shortcuts.html

What you're likely looking for is the Text/Font DPI. On an Android tablet, it is normally in Settings -> Accessibility -> Font Size. https://support.google.com/accessibility/android/answer/6006972?hl=en Much the same in iOS. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202828 Some apps such as JW Library have their own internal font scaling setting (Go into a verse/publication -> ... menu -> text settings). Be warned that changed the operating system font size from the default on a tablet can result in some buttons/windows being inaccessible. A common one in JW Library is after an update, it will not show the button to proceed past the 'What's New' screen and needs to be set back to default.
