Opera for free

I see that the Metropolitan Opera is streaming an opera from its website each day for free! A different one each day.

The last 2 days we have watched Donizetti's Don Pasquale with Anna Netrebko and today Mozart's Cosí Fan Tutte.

 

Thought I would mention this in case an opera lover fancies watching one - or someones wants to try opera for the first time. Subtitles are available.

(I don't necessarily recommend tomorrow's offering - Rusalka - although Dvořák's music is ravishing - because of the theme.)

Oh nice. Typically when I'm in the mood for opera, I'll type the opera I want to see into youtube, but subtitles are great. I might check it out if the mood catches me.

We watched Rusalka - I don't mind the odd fairytale - and it was so beautiful.  Renee Fleming has really made the role her own. The aria "Song To The Moon" was a sheer delight.

The set was amazing too.

Yesterday was "Adriana Lecouvrier".  Never heard of it before!  But Anna Netrebko is always worth watching and hearing, and it was absolutely wonderful.

Hope you enjoyed it!  The bass singer of Baron Ochs was phenomenal, I love his range. and what can one say of Renee Fleming? wonderful.  actually all the cast were amazing.  Another opera I had not heard before.

Today was Verdi’s “Rigoletto” set in 1960 Las Vegas!  excellent singing and the staging worked really well with the Duke as a Sinatra style singer and casino owner. Very enjoyable.

 

Tomorrow one for the Bible followers: Verdi’s story of Nebuchadnezzar: “Nabucco”.

Nabucco was brilliant!  Not Biblically accurate, of course, but dramatic and very tuneful.

Plus Placido Domingo in the title role.  The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves was so well sung that they had to sing it again as an encore straight after.

Loved the singing and the music - and a bonus: Jehovah's name featured prominently in an aria near the end.
