Breaking News  Kanloops, BC  Cdn Snowbird aerobatic jet crashed just after takeoff.  Crashed into house. One crew dead - other landed on roof - treated and sent to hospital.

Fire from jet. Jets are Old, made in 1960s. Total of 7 crew members  have died over the years.  More coming later.

Many have thought they need to be replaced - but...

Consciousness, that annoying time between naps!

In my opinion the Snowbirds program was better than the Blue Angels, more artistic, less tense.

In most modern jets when one seat punches out, both ejection seats go off.

Age is not the criteria in aircraft, maintence is. Unlike cars boats and trains even civilian aircraft get continious maintenace which preserves them quite well. It is even more so for the military. The last airplane I owned  N1706D was built in 1948, it is still going strong at 72 years of age. Wish I had it back, wish I was in as good of shape.

Latest report says the pilot (singular)  ejected. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8328909/Jet-Canadian-air-force-team-crashes-residential-neighborhood-witnesses.html

Like the in fog of war we won't know until the noise calms down little.

Update. A female captain of administration was killed. The pilot survived but with severe injuries. He landed on house roof. Not sure but it seems one ejection seat didn't deploy or not properly and other didn't have enough altitude for chute to slow pilot much.

I would appreciate a news source for this.

It’s true... I was flying on the oldest 747 jumbo Qantas In service (retired now) and actually spoke to the crew about the age of the plane, and their response was exactly what you said ...that they are extremely well maintained, and feel very safe flying the Queen of the Skies”
The body of the aircraft is designed to last “forever” the rest is the maintenance of the essential mechanical parts including engines and computers.  That plane was in service for 20 years and never had big issue. (747 jumbos are noisy though)

I did a little research on the aircaft involved. It is a side by side trainer. If either ejection handle is pulled both seats are supposed to eject, this prevents a remaining passenger from being fried by the rocket as one seat departs. Here is a video from take-off to crash.

This is kind of wierd, how did we come up with an aviation topic?

For a passing moment I thought I was posting on the HomeBuilt Aircraft forum. HBA is the source of the video.
