I was just remembering something else from my childhood. I was raised way out in the boonies (Jewell, Oregon) 30 miles to town. Close knit to near neighbors. One such neighbor was Frank, he loved to camp cook, learned in WWI, had the cast iron kettles to do it.

Frank was about 72 when I watched him cook, about 1973 so that would have meant he was born in 1897 or 1898. WOW!

CHecker????? When did you change your name to CHecker? Lol. 😆

Peace...... Love...... &....... Paradise......

Hey sissy, i thought I told you 😅

Its my maiden name and I thought I'd share the nickname I had in school, helps people to remember my name now.

I played basketball decades ago. When the name stickers were made for the uniforms the printer took my first name initial and my last name...ta da...CHecker 🤣🤣

Kids tried to make fun of it but I thought it was hilarious, they gave up because I didn't take it seriously 🤪

The largest sand dunes in the U.S. are in Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado, where Star Dune is one of the tallest, reaching a height of approximately 741 feet (225 m) from base to summit.

You are right on by there being the largest by height.

If by “largest” you mean by area (not height), the Nebraska Sandhills (Sand Hills) are often cited as the largest dune system in the U.S. (and in the Western Hemisphere) — covering about 20,000 square miles.

Reminds me about which species of tree in the world is the biggest: By height it is the California Redwoods. By mass it is the Giant Sequoia.

Tree- by sheer size. I think it was mentioned in the Awake! In the 90' (?)

Pando (a quaking aspen colony)
  • What it is: Pando is a clonal colony of quaking aspen trees (Populus tremuloides) in Utah. While it appears to be a forest of over 40,000 individual trees, they are all genetically identical and connected by a single, massive underground root system. The name "Pando" is Latin for "I spread".

I think this MWM treasure question is relevant here (week from sept 29) What do you think?

What verse would you tie in? That would help me connect where you're thinking is going.

Ecc 3:8 " ... a time to hate" (The spiritual gems question + comment)

@jps asked: how do you keep yourself neutral when/if someone ask what you think about nazism?

Why would I be neutral? Our neutrality must not spill over into misconceived tolerance of evil. Nazism showed its true colours during WW2. As Ecc 3:8 says, there is a time to hate.

If I was to be perceived as neutral when asked what i think about (historic) nazism, I think people generally would think I was uninformed about the atrocities that took place, or maybe in denial (those individuals exist.) which would be disrespectful to nazism's victims in the concentration camps.

Is the question really about neo-nazis? How to be diplomatic to a neo-nazi? But that is another question.

I could not see the connection with treasures, but I definitely see the connection with the gems!

I appreciate how you tied in Ecclesiastes 3:8. That verse really helps us frame it. There is “a time to hate,” and Jehovah expects us to loathe what is wicked (Ps. 97:10). Neutrality doesn’t mean pretending Nazism was harmless — Jehovah’s Witnesses were among the very first groups targeted by the Nazis because we refused to support Hitler. Thousands were imprisoned, and many were executed for their faith. Far from being neutral in the sense of silence, our brothers distributed literature that exposed the regime and openly rejected Hitler’s demands. (God’s Kingdom Rules! chap. 10; w17.01 14-18)

What I would express is that we hate what Jehovah hates (Ps. 97:10; Eccl. 3:8), and we do not get involved in political sides or movements. That’s the balance: we can condemn the evil of the ideology, and make it clear that our Christian neutrality means we don’t align with human governments or their conflicts. Jehovah’s people proved that in the 1930s and 40s — our brothers and sisters refused to give the Hitler salute, refused to fight, and were imprisoned and executed for it. Neutrality never meant tolerating evil; it meant staying loyal to God’s Kingdom while courageously rejecting Nazism’s demands.

The question itself was not on about a time to hate, but a time not to love. When it's inappropriate morally, righteously, doctrine, behaviorally. Thus we do not love the antics of Nazism.
