A random thread of absolute randomness...

Recommended Posts

so extremely random question about dressing. I have very small shoulders and they are at an angle by default so bra straps dont stay on them so i wear sports bras. HOWEVER  bunch of shirts shows off enough top that my bra straps will show (The shirts are fine and dont actually show anything provocative or inappropriate, and would normally hide a strap). Anyways because of this I'm often stuck wearing a jacket even in the spring/summer months. Are bra straps showing a taboo thing? I didnt want to make a whole thread about something that can be answered in 1 or 2 responses.

Careful, I will derail and jump conversations like i was a pole jumper in the Olympics. Reply with caution🥺🤣

I’m no expert on bra straps. First, I don’t wear them — bras, that is. And second, I’m just not an expert.

But on the observation side, I think some sisters may honestly not realize what can be seen from the back when certain tops shift, are cut a certain way, or are tucked in. Something may look perfectly fine from the front, while from behind it may show more than the person realizes — including what was intended to stay covered. (your underwear.)

That does not mean the person is immodest. It may simply be one of those practical clothing issues that is hard to notice unless someone — kindly — says something.

So personally, I would not say an occasional strap is automatically taboo or provocative. But I do think it is worth being considered, because undergarments are still undergarments. If they are visible as part of the outfit, then it may be worth adjusting the top, the straps, or the style. Undergarments are meant to stay under.

And I definitely would not want a sister to feel she has to wear a jacket all summer over something that may have a simpler solution.

I don’t think sisters are intending to have their underwear visible. It’s more likely just something they don’t realize can be seen depending on how a top shifts or sits.

That’s really all I’m getting at. I'm not setting a standard or a rule -- just sharing a practical observation.

Now when it comes to guys — I’ll speak for myself — I’ve got a little bit of belly that pushes the top of my pants up over my belt buckle, and I don’t always notice it. My wife is constantly on me to fix that.

Same idea. Sometimes things show that we didn’t intend to show — and we just don’t notice it ourselves.

Besides that, I've got no way to even see my belt buckle from that angle.
