What are good Wordl alternatives?

Recommended Posts

I noticed that the New York Times has just bought Wordl for an undisclosed price in the low seven figures.

There are a lot of free alternatives so I don't understand why the fear at this purchase.

So far, I've tried:
On Windows 11: https://hellowordl.net/
(Not limited to one word a day and not limited to a 5 letter word.)

On Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wordle.wordlegame.today.word.puzzle.game
Wordle Unlimited-Daily Word - Panda Word Puzzle
(Limited to a 5 letter word, not limited to one word a day)

Quite an interesting game. Just wondering what are other good alternatives besides the ones mentioned in tomsguide.

Some tips here on wordl strategy:

Remember your first guess is very important. Since you have no data available on the word, it’s good to get something good on your first try itself.

Try the words that contain popular letters in the English language, these are: the vowels: A, E, I, O, U and N, R, S, T.  Letters like X, W, Q, Z occur very rarely in 5 letter words much less 5 letter common words that are possible Wordle solutions. Avoid them. Also, avoid using the previous day’s solution.

Some commonly used opening words are: STARE, ARISE, TEARS and MAKER. Players also prefer using ADIEU and AUDIO to figure out the vowels as early as possible.

Guessing positions of already revealed yellow words is also crucial. What most players forget is that the yellow letters cannot be at spots already occupied by green cubes. That should narrow down the guessing margin further.

I type

'raise'

'month'

'pluck'

'bandy'

and then use all the clues those letters provide to figure out the word.  Great fun!  👍

My highest string of consecutive correct guesses is 28.

What's yours? :D

This is how it works for me:

The above clues tell me the word must be rinse.

This one shows all five letters but that they are in all the wrong places:

The clues tell me the word must be cupid.

This one tells me four letters are right and in the right places.

So the word must be bonds.

I find the color cues on the keyboard helps us to pick a letter to use.

Only the grey keys are unused letters.

Green keys are letters in the right position.

Yellow keys are letters in the wrong position.

Black keys are letters that are confirmed not in the word.

Wordles polularity increased from 90 daily players to 2 million. :D

In a pandemic, time is molasses, so perhaps it is meaningless that, as recently as November, the browser-based interface had just 90 daily players. By last week, it was reportedly reaching more than 2 million a day, an R rate to rival a new variant.
