In brotherly love have tender affection for one another. In showing honor to one another, take the lead.—Rom. 12:10.

When we show tender affection for one another, we protect the congregation from a spirit of competition. Recall that Jonathan did not try to compete with David, viewing him as a rival to the throne. (1 Sam. 20:42) All of us can imitate Jonathan’s example. Do not view your fellow workers as rivals because of their abilities, “but with humility consider others superior to you.” (Phil. 2:3) Keep in mind that each person in the congregation has something to contribute. By keeping a humble view of ourselves, we see the good in our brothers and sisters and benefit from their faithful example. (1 Cor. 12:21-25) When we show tender affection for one another, we strengthen the unity among God’s people. We prove that we are Jesus’ disciples, and this attracts honesthearted ones to true worship. Above all, we glorify “the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort,” Jehovah.—2 Cor. 1:3. w21.01 24 ¶14; 25 ¶16

              "Open Your Heart!"

For our affection to do the most good, we need to express it. (Proverbs 27:5) When our affection is real, our face likely shows it, and it may move the heart of others to respond. “The brightness of the eyes makes the heart rejoice,” wrote the wise man. (Proverbs 15:30) Thoughtful acts also promote tender affection. Although no one can buy true affection, a gift given from the heart can be very  meaningful. A card, a letter, and “a word spoken at the right time”—all of these can express deep affection. (Proverbs 25:11; 27:9) Once we have gained the friendship of others, we must maintain it by continuing to show unselfish affection. Especially in times of need, we will want to be there for our friends. The Bible says: “A true companion is loving all the time, and is a brother that is born for when there is distress.”—Proverbs 17:17.  <w 04 1001

The Bible is what very few want to hear but it's the message that everyone is looking for (Prov. 1:20-23 & 3:5,6).

This is an important  point. But how does this actually occur? Sometimes a person will promote a competitive spirit by judging the actions of others as inferior to their superior activities. But of course, every person or situation is different than the other, so it’s important not to overly exalt oneself. This can particularly be difficult if one is proud or tends towards certain traits, but not understanding that this can comes across as sociopathic and leave a bad taste in other peoples mouth, thus the need for reminders and Paul‘s counsel in Phil.2:3.

Instead this was put nicely:

Nothing wrong with feeling proud of our accomplishments, but to strengthen the unity of God’s people it involves taking the “I“ or “me“ out of a situation and instead focusing on the good traits of our brothers or sisters. Of course we are all imperfect, so the need to always keep this in check.
