Mt Etna hasn’t stopped! 🌋

Sweeping balconies of black dust has become a regular event for the thousands who live in the towns around Etna.
Every roof, terrace, porch, veranda and geranium-adorned balustrade has turned black. Even gardens are barely green any more.

Looks pretty....dangerous - Friday March 12

The 12th paroxysm from Etna's New SE crater in less than a month occurred during the morning today, as had been expected since the early hours when activity started to pick up. It was particularly powerful and rather long-lasting, marking the 12th such event in a row.

SO2 plumes from Etna travel as far as China
Update Thu 11 Mar 2021 07:58

Satellite-based measurements of SO2 concentrations in the atmosphere show the impressive SO2 plumes ejected by Etna during its recent paroxysms traveling as far as China (see link on Twitter)

I know what you mean, Lucy.  When I first saw that photo, I thought 'That has got to be one of the prettiest pictures of a volcanic eruption I have ever seen.'

Kind of like our snow, here in Michigan.  It's pretty--when it isn't making highways slick...and causing

deadly car crashes. :(

A volcano has erupted south-west of Iceland's capital Reykjavik, the country's meteorological office says.
It says the fissure is about 500-700 metres long (1,640-2,300ft) at Fagradalsfjall on Reykjanes peninsula. The last eruption there was some 800 years ago.
Iceland has recorded more than 40,000 earthquakes in the past three weeks.

Breaking news on NHK magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Miyagi prefecture (as above). On my phone the tsunami warning came first. Just happening now.

It struck in a field, but was 32 miles down.

This area was totally devastated in the 2011 tsunami. I was reading how the people evacuated immediately up to the hills because it still haunts them. Luckily the tsunami warning was called off an hour later.

I had planned to visit this part of Japan last April but coronavirus scuttled everyone’s plans last year.

Finally, after 10,000 years, and over 50,000 earthquakes, Iceland's volcano is erupting.
