Does your area use Daylight Savings Time

Yeah. Maybe in the New World we won't need Standard/Daylight Time, like in Bible times. The day began when the sun came up, and ended when the sun set. No, it wasn't the same time of day at different times of the year. But at least they didn't have to worry about whether or not it was going to be bright enough when the day began. I'm sure things would be a lot less stressful if we had no watches on our wrists (or on our phones); we just wouldn't worry about how much time we had to get things done.

Now - I do love clocks and watches. I plan to loot a nice Cartier Tank Watch when all the shops are ours for the taking.. 😉

I think we'll still need what time to do things and be places. There will still be orderly arrangements and meeting times- you can't just show up when you want to, right?

There will also be time zones to figure out. But trying to fool people into thinking they have an extra hour in the day will be finished! 😃

In the UK we also had double savings time, back in the day, which also had pros and cons.

However the use of time is one thing that we try to maximise, using it well.

It would be easier if w stayed on our standard time throughout the year. However, if you want more time, it is possible to have 10 Sundays in a month. Just imagine all those meetings?

But it's supposed to be dark at night.  For it not to be light until nearly 7.30 - 8a in the morning makes it dangerous for children going to school.  Leaving the clocks at standard time allows for the most possible light earliest in the day so that those of us who need to go out at that time don't feel like it's the middle of the night. :D

I have always complained about DST for exactly the reason you give.  If you have a daughter in first grade who has to catch the school bus alone, it is scary.  It also makes a difference if you live on the east side of the time zone or the west side.  Birmingham Alabama and Dallas Texas are both in the central time zone.  The sunrise time in Dallas, Texas is later than it is in Birmingham, Alabama.

The only explanation I have ever heard for DST was decades ago when men would work in a factory during the day and work a farm in the evening.  By starting work an hour earlier (and getting off an hour earlier) they would have more daylight in the evening for working their farms.  I don't know anyone today who does that.

I actually wear 2 watches.  I have a nice watch that I have had for years.  My wife purchased 2 fit watches.  I set one up for me and one for her.  (She never wears hers.) I refuse to just stop wearing the nice watch now.  It is solar powered and dos not have to be would, so I can wear it on my right arm. I had to wear my watch on the right arm for years because I worked a job using my left arm around machinery.  The watch could be caught in the machine and injure your arm.  (The machine would not grab a bare arm.)

I don't like the dark so I appreciate the extra daylight. I wish they would make it permanent.

I guess that wasn't a popular thing to say. I really didn't realize just how many people don't like it. Besides not liking the dark itself, it was always only during the summer months when it's warm and many people are enjoying picnics, et and other summer activities because where I lived most of my life it got dark in the colder months by 4-5 o'clock and everyone loved DST. The winters were verry long and cold and dark early.

Another thing is that it made going to the mwm  easier and safer because we weren't driving in the dark, and sometimes it is just barely dark when we leave to go home. Especially if it's raining or bad weather the light is always a welcome help, especially with little children. I have noticed in the congregation that older ones often attend the mwm meeting on Zoom if it's dark, especially dark and raining.

But it also has it's negative side for many. I don't think it will ever be made permanent but doesn't seem like it's going away either.

One small crack doesn't mean you are broken; it means that you were put to the test and didn't fall apart..

As I was thinking about this subject I was thinking about China. Why? China has one time zone. It is officially called China Standard Time (CST). It is 8 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+08:00). There is no daylight saving time. China is 3,400 wide east to west. The United States in comparison is just under 3,000 miles (obviously not including Hawaii/Alaska) and has 4 time zones.

"Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight"-Psalms 119:143 NIV Translation.

Hence why the Chinese have a very long working day. They start work when the sun rises in the east, and finishes when the sun sets in the west.
