I have lost my JW Historic Library.  Would there be someone who would have it or that could provide a link.  It includes pretty much all "historical publications" from the organization along with all kinds of Convention Brochures and other things that are available from public domain etc etc:):)

Any help is greatly appreciated:):)

This happened to me back in 2021.

I was in tears. I lost everything after the hard drives died.
it’s 400 GB worth of media and publication contents.

Including some videos no longer available such as the interview of the JW spokesperson with Jared Kushner.

I stopped collecting since then cause I don’t want to be in pain again.

But now I may begin collecting again. This time with investment for a better infrastructure. Either a cloud infrastructure with AWS (same infrastructure the organization uses) or physical infrastructure (NAS Server)

"For now I would be lying down undisturbed; I would be sleeping and at rest."  Job 3:13

Adding NAS to your system has many advantages:

  1. Hard drives have come WAY down in cost of $/GB. So a NAS box with 2 drives can easily and safely back up 1-2 TB of data. That will protect your data if your main hard drive crashes. Microsoft SyncToy app makes it easy to do incremental backup of specific folders
  2. Easy to back up from multiple devices in your system
  3. One additional step is recommended: use a portable USB drive (about $40-$50/TB) to periodically backup the NAS files for off-site storage
  4. A NAS makes backing and restoring JW Library backups very easy.

It just simply means storage devices attached to your network.  There are NAS Hard Drives that act as computers on your network that you can use just for storage.  They can be used for backups or media or just file storage.  NAS means Network Attached Storage.  Another form of storage is Cloud based where the storage is offsite for like if a disaster or fire or anything other thing were to happen, your data would be safe offsite and can be "downloaded" to your computers onsite again.

This is just a basic explanation:):)

Thanks for the replies:):)

A big difference between NAS and Cloud storage is data security. The NAS is normally on your premises and accessible only through your own devices. You can even isolate the NAS from the internet by setting up two networks on your PC: one that IS connected to the internet, one that is only connected to the NAS.

I love my NAS (Network Area Storage).  I currently have a Synology DS220+ with 2 10TB hard drives installed which back up each other.  Synology has apps you can install on your smartphones to back up your pictures and works similar to Google photos.  They also have an app you install on your computer to back up your computers on a regular basis to the NAS.  There are other things you can do as well.  Just think of it as having your own version of Google Drive or Dropbox that you don't have to pay a subscription.

Some brothers have mentioned that they have SSD (Solid State Drives).  Although SSD's are more reliable than traditional Hard Drives, when an SSD fails it's very hard if not impossible to get the data back.  With that said the only traditional hard drives I have anymore are the ones installed in my NAS.  SSD's are superior in so many ways, but you still need a traditional hard drive to get a lot of storage for an affordable cost.

Everything important to me is saved online. I know I won't lose it.

Great to see that you use the cloud for data storage. Just a word of caution, saving stuff online does not mean having a backup of it. Having a copy of cloud data on another storage device or an alternative cloud storage is way more reliable than single storage. Cloud is just a hard drive in some data center and drives can fail.

Oh, look at what one mistake of Google employee have done just a few days ago:
