JWL will not show the yeartext or any other video on 2nd screen after showing Zoom participants or website on 2nd screen

Recommended Posts

We are having an issue with JWL for months now, when we show Zoom participant talk on the 2nd screen in the Hall. Or when we show something else on the 2nd screen like our website.

If we want to display a song after that, the lyrics don't show up. We only hear the sound. The same thing happens when we want to start any other video. We have to close JWL and restart it and then hope it works.

We use Windows 11. Intel i7.

Any thoughts? Any suggestions?

I've got a new issue with JW Library, this is on Mac, when I go to "personal study" any of my study notes that I open here it only shows me three lines. It does allow me to scroll, but it's still only allowing me to see three lines.

The easy workaround is to open the publication that it's linked to. But some of my personal study notes are not linked to a publication.

But I also had noticed that when I tried to create a study note in a publication and I'm copying and pasting something into that study note it does not display it. Period I have to go away from the publication and come back for it to display the study note that I created. It is that way on my Ipad and Iphone also.

Basic reason: JWL and Zoom app are competing to control the 2nd screen - last one opened wins. In my experience, when school participants must be shown on the screen, close JWL first (its not needed at that time, anyway). Selecting Zoom now allows it to access the 2nd screen to show the participants. Once the talk is completed and the stage is highlighted again, then I re-start JWL, which takes back the control of 2nd screen from Zoom.

That is not always applicable as there are times when Zoom must be displayed on the hall monitors using dual screen mode, such as when you have a speaker from another country 'visiting' to give a talk or someone giving a part on the school from home. However, when that is not the case, then dual screen mode should be disabled in Zoom's settings and Zoom should only be on the A/V monitor.

We definitely had this exact issue for years on Windows 10. Even if Windows 10 is preferable from the basic user experience side, it has gotten to the point where it's not worth downgrading anymore. In less than a year it will no longer have security updates. Windows 11 actually has better multi monitor support. The majority of the GUI can still be modified to function like Windows 10 or 7 or XP, despite Microsoft trying to stop that.

you still to verify that there is nothing from zoom on the 2nd monitor.  you can have the zoom current speaker window (i dont remember off hand what that window is called) on the 2nd monitor, just none of the other windows.  no chat, no participants, no main view.  I think it's the main view window causing the problem, but I didn't chase it down that far.  I know for sure the main zoom window will cause it, and it happens on win10 as well, no reason to downgrade.

it's really sad, zoom was a no name company, not even a blip until JW started using it during pandemic.  They made a fortune, and they could care less about customer experience.  keep adding useless features and spend no time fixing core bugs.  they are an embarrassment to real software developers.

Zoom really never was not noname company. Its founder was a key developer in Cisco (if this brand something say for you - a top company in network technologies). Once this project did not interesting topmanagement, he developed Zoom as an own startup. On the beginning of pandemic it was really top product. However this is a common commercial software lifecycle - more features, more bugs, less productivity...

Plus a great many (millions?) of Witesses use it but most use the free version and do not pay.  And for congregations that do pay, the WTBS organized a reduced amount (for a while)...♥️
