Question about making JWlibrary backups

Recommended Posts

I've always made a backup of my JWlibrary by emailing it (from my ipad) to myself (gmail). Then I restored it on my samsung phone.

I do all of my studying on my iPad, and this way I have all my notes and tags and stuff available on my phone.

I just tried to make a backup with my new iPad (10th generation) and a message tells me "this file cannot be attached in this email" What could this mean?

i cannot help you with this issue the ipad. I am guessing you are all up=to=date with all the OS's and app versions.

I was going to say there is a 'syncing' option available. However, if he file does do upload, the option is mute...

I did note on one thread, that powering off and on (yes - it's a cliche') did resolve some issues.

Wishing you all the best.

I tried powering off and on.

And I made sure everything is updated.

Thanks for trying to help.

What is the size of the file?  Lately I have had some files rejected as attachments because they exceeded the mail allowances.

I don't know how I could see that.

It's just my JWlibrary. I don't have any long videos downloaded.

It was never a problem until now that I have the new iPad.

It was just a thought since you were "emailing" the result.  sorry if it does not apply.

Here is a sample of my JW Library.  First picture is the main app alone.  the second picture is the audio JW Library files and the third picture is video JW Library files.  If you add them all up it is between 80 and 90 gigabytes in size.  My email won't do 100 megabytes as an attachment.  Just asking.

Brother John, I believe Sister Jay is referring to the backup file, not the JW Library app itself. I don't think iPads allow you to mess with the file system regardless. My JW Library userdatabackup file is less than 5MB, so that's likely fine for email.

I would suggest bypassing the problem altogether and not using email. You could upload it to your iCloud or Google Drive account and download it on the other device, that is unfortunately the intended method nowadays. However, my personal preference would be using an application that allows you to send files locally, securely and wirelessly, akin to airdrop, but crossplatform. See: https://localsend.org/ It's in the iOS and Android app stores.

Now that you are up and running again, you might want to try the next step: merge/sync your devices...

(Just keep 'back-ups' along the way - to fall back on - if there is an issue. )

Here is a link to 'syncing' files:

This works well for me:
