For the Programmers among you: adjusting links to JWLibrary

Recommended Posts

I'm attending the School for Congregation Elders in April. I like to make my notes in OneNote. So what I did was installing the jwpub file and copy a Lesson by selecting the text and copy/paste (Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v) it into OneNote. But it didn't look nice. So I pasted it into Word, then reselected all and copied it into OneNote. Much better.

The problem is that if I click on a Bible verse or any other link in OneNote, it doesn't bring me to JWLibrary. The link is not recognized.

For Instance:

Revelation 3:4 has the link: jwpub://b/NWTR/66:3:14-66:3:14

It gives an error message. A security message. If I click Yes, it doesn't recoginze the link as a link to JWLibrary

So I made a workaround. Go to JWLibrary and go to Revelation 3. Click on the number 14 and select Share. There I can copy the link. Go back to OneNote and right click on the verse to select Adjust link and copy/paste the link I copied: https://www.jw.org/finder?srcid=jwlshare&wtlocale=O&prefer=lang&bible=66003014&pub=nwtsty

But if I have a reference to Revelation 3:4,5, I can't do the same. It only creates a link to one verse. So I adjusted it manually by adding 66003015

https://www.jw.org/finder?srcid=jwlshare&wtlocale=O&prefer=lang&bible=66003014-66003015&pub=nwtsty It worked. Happy me!

But now I want to do something similar when the reference goes to 2 paragraphs in an article.

The reference from Rev 3:4 is (w08 15/12 13 ¶8-9). In JWLibrary it is: jwpub://p/O:2008922/13-14. In the jwpub file this brings me to two paragraphs shown in Black and the background faded in grey. Par 8 and 9

The sharing link from JWLibrary is: https://www.jw.org/finder?srcid=jwlshare&wtlocale=O&prefer=lang&docid=2008922&par=13

So far I haven't been able to adjust the link to bring me to JWLibrary and the 2 paragraphs shown in black.

Any suggestions?

I copy and paste the scripture(s) into my notes.  No links.  If I were to link it, I might not read it....

Plus that lets me highlight the points in the scripture that applies most to the point being made.

That might not be the suggestion you are looking for, but it's what I do.  Links can change too....then next thing you know it's broken and you have a new frustration.  In my opinion, better to just copy the scripture(s). :shrugs:

The strange thing is that when I adjust the link to make it work to show several paragraphs, it doesn't work on my windows tablet. But it works on my android phone.

I could copy/paste alle the scriptures and references into my notes, but I like to keep that outside my notes. So only the question, my found answers and the notes from the discussion in class.

But I can live with only a few links not working properly. It's just that it would be nice.

Check the link of Danny above, it goes to more than one paragraph

And thanks for your post, I will try to build a macro for onenote where we can select the bible verse there and the link is automatically created... seams feasible to me

POTENTIAL ISSUE IDENTIFIED

The JW Library app for Windows is currently unable to recognize multiple paragraphs when using the “par” parameter. This issue affects all publications that use the “par” parameter but does not impact the “bible” or “ts” parameters. The jw.org website and JW Library on other platforms are not affected at the time of writing. Unfortunately, it is beyond our control and will need to be resolved in a future update. I recommend contacting your local branch office to report this issue so they can investigate further.

Good morning my brother,

First of all, I apologize for my English. I am Brazilian and not fluent.

Regarding the link "jwpub://b/NWTR/66:3:14-66:3:14", this is a link used to open references within the JW Library application. So when you copy the link, it will actually show the code that is in the internal HTML of the file.jwpub.

What I find strange is that it copies the HTML link, when it should copy the text that is in the document. Just for reference, below is the .db of a publication. The "p" means publication (w, g, it, ws, lv...) and the "b" means "bible".

I don't know if I answered the question, but this is what I understood from your question.

If I said something wrong, I apologize.

PS.: The links within .jwpub do not change because they are internal links. Instead of searching the jw.org site for the link, they search for the publication code (MEPS).

Your brother from Brazil. Psalm 133:1
