"But in our reports, Russia does not appear, nor does China. And technically, in Russia, you can identify yourself as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, as long as you are not associated with a legal entity. What is technically persecuted in Russia is not the belief itself, but the organization that is registered as the religion. I’m not sure if that was clear. 😅

The reasons for keeping information about our brothers in China confidential, while sharing more details about those in Russia, are rooted in the unique legal and social circumstances of each country.

In China, Jehovah’s Witnesses are not legally recognized as a religious organization, and the government imposes strict surveillance and control over religious activities, especially those perceived as foreign or unauthorized. Because of this, our brothers and sisters in China must worship discreetly, often meeting in private homes or other locations where they are less likely to draw attention. Revealing names, locations, or organizational details about our activities in China could endanger our brothers’ safety, lead to detention or harassment by authorities, and threaten the very existence of congregations in that country. To protect them, we exercise a high degree of confidentiality regarding any specific information related to Jehovah’s Witnesses in China, even within our own global brotherhood.

In contrast, while the situation for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia is also extremely challenging and unjust, the persecution there is already highly public and widely documented. Russian authorities have conducted public raids on homes and places of worship, put our brothers on trial, and even imprisoned many of them. These actions are often reported in both local and international media, and legal proceedings are typically a matter of public record. The organization has therefore chosen to share more information about our brothers’ experiences in Russia to raise international awareness, support legal defense efforts, and mobilize advocacy for justice. In this context, publicizing the situation in Russia does not create additional risk but rather serves to support our brothers through the prayers, encouragement, and practical assistance of the worldwide brotherhood, as well as drawing attention to their plight in hopes of positive change.

Ultimately, the degree of confidentiality or public sharing of information is always determined by what is safest and wisest for our brothers and sisters, with careful direction from the faithful and discreet slave. Protecting the safety, well-being, and spiritual welfare of our fellow believers is always our top priority.

"Keep encouraging one another and building one another up, just as you are in fact doing."

 1 Thessalonians 5:11

So if the persecution in China was public and publicized by the media, the organization would share information about the brothers in this land?

How do we provide the same thing for our brothers in China if we know nothing about them?

In our prayers daily we request that Jehovah give to each one of them, individually, the full share of holy spirit they need (1) to endure, (2) to cope with their difficulties, (3) to withstand Satan's attacks & temptations, (4) to be loyal, (5) to worship him in spirit and truth, (6) to remain faithful to Jehovah proving Satan to be a liar, and (7) to help them find true godly joy in their service to him.

Thanks,

Jim
