It could be for liability reasons or privacy reasons. If someone requested a visit from an elder, that may not necessarily indicate she wants to speak to his wife. And wives aren't held to other same standards of privacy, legally speaking, so that could be a factor for why they aren't invited - they may spread information about a Sister's illness that she doesn't want to be public.

It could be part of it for sure.  It could be hospital rules too.
The visits happen from patient rosters as much as the hospital will allow. If the patient indicates on their entry forms they are JW, then the hospital may share the names on that list. One of the hospitals will share and one no longer shares.
The brothers have special “chaplain” privileges at the hospital. So it’s not that the person is necessarily directly asking for an elder to visit.
I think the servants are allowed to accompany an elder.
It seems they are treating it more like a shepherding visit now though. The one time we went into a room and we found out it was a couple who were both removed, I just left the room and he did the visit alone.

Jer 29:11-“For I well know the thoughts I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalm 56:3-“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Romans 8:38-”For I am convinced...”

I have never heard of the Patient Visitation Group before. How long has that been happening? It sounds like there could be a lot of overlap with the HLC.

Joel and the locusts ....

Remember this article?

For many years, we have applied that prophecy symbolically to the way in which Jehovah’s people, like an unstoppable swarm of locusts, engage in their preaching activity. We understood that this activity has devastating effects on the “land,” or the people who are under the control of the religious leaders.

4 If we restricted ourselves to a reading of Joel 2:7-9, a case could be made for that explanation. However, when we consider the prophecy in its context, we see that a different understanding is appropriate.

I knew of someone who was stumbled by this previous explanation. If only he would have waited for this clarification.... He would still be serving with us. It's a good lesson to wait on clarifications rather than running ahead.

This locus plague is not connected to the one at Revelation chapter 9!

Like locusts, the Babylonians (or, Chaldeans) invaded the city of Jerusalem in 607 B.C.E. The Bible reports: ....

Then there would be restoration...

The land will be fruitful again. (Joel 2:23-26) Then at some point in the future, an ample supply of spiritual food will become available. “I will pour out my spirit on every sort of flesh,” says Jehovah, “and your sons and your daughters will prophesy . . . And even on my male slaves and female slaves I will pour out my spirit.” (Joel 2:28, 29) That outpouring of God’s spirit did not occur as soon as the Israelites were brought back from Babylon to their homeland. Rather, it took place centuries later, at Pentecost 33 C.E.

Paul was inspired to make that connection.
