Advice please

Recommended Posts

G'day all.

I don't really know how to ask my question.

Quick backstory. My husband and I are reg pioneering out in western Queensland Australia. Lots of rurals. My husband is an elder and very busy in our small congregation.

Sadly without going into detail. Our landlords who are witnesses are getting a divorce and selling their property that we live on.

We live in like an expandable home. 6m X 6m.

It's not like we can just pack up and move easily. So are worried that we may have to rent (which is really expensive but besides that there are no properties available in our area).

So we are thinking of buying a small cheap block of land to put our expandable home on. Problem is the cheap land is more rural. We found one we really like but it's 1 1/2 hours from 3 different congregations. We wouldn't be able to afford the fuel to travel to the meeting twice a week. Our goal would be once. And the day we go to the meeting we would join the field service group as well. But the rest of the time we would zoom in.

So I guess my questions are

1.. can you really pioneer in a congregation like that?

2.. can you really serve as a helpful elder so far from the Cong?

3. If these are deal breakers, we don't know what to do. We have less than a month before we have to be off the property, with literally nowhere to go unless we buy this land that we can afford.

What is everyone's thoughts and or ideas.

Thank you.

Fiona

i wonder if they could sell the property with the understanding that they already have good tennants.
Hmm. I wonder. The fold out home is ours and we have been paying minimal rent. But that's a good idea. We might see if that's an option. I doubt it, but at this point we will try anything. Thank you

We've had an elder here who lived a distance out. He didn't take care of a group, but he managed the responsibilities he did have. And did zoom when he couldn't get into town.

And years ago we lived out at a hydro dam, I did the 2 country maps on my own for 5 years. It's possible.

My wife and I rented for years .. but it was the same old cycle, the owner had a desire to sell or move on. So that meant we moved too many times. We finally bought and we only moved to accommodate our needs not others. You also build equity… stability .. and a place to live as you get older.
Pray… let others know what you are looking for.. pray some more .. count the cost.. act.. allow Jehovah to bless your action

Zeph 3:17 Jehovah your God is in the midst of you. As a mighty One, he will save. He will exult over you with rejoicing. He will become silent in his love. He will be joyful over you with happy cries....... Love it....a beautiful word picture.

I am with the others here about praying. But like Jacob really wanting something from Jehovah, pray specifically for what you and your husband exactly need, distance, price so that you can continue in your assignments. Maybe as sister Carol above said, you may be able to purchase the property. Sometimes these things also come last minute, but you never know how Jehovah solves a problem.

Fiona, IMO it's really difficult to pioneer and be a helpful elder when you cannot attend half of the meetings in person or join the congregation in service.

Maybe the local elders can give some suggestion that doesn't involve living so far. I hope they do.

You will all not believe what has happened this afternoon.

I absolutely believe it...and since I was going to make a small post about this anyways...I think I might as well drop this here, (italics my own):

2 Chronicles 20:20-23: "They rose up early the next morning and went out to the wilderness of Te·koʹa. As they went out, Je·hoshʹa·phat stood up and said: “Listen to me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Put faith in Jehovah your God so that you may be able to stand firm. Put faith in his prophets, and you will be successful.” 21 After he consulted with the people, he appointed men to sing to Jehovah and to offer praise in holy adornment as they went out ahead of the armed men, saying: “Give thanks to Jehovah, for his loyal love endures forever.” 22 When they began joyfully singing praises, Jehovah set an ambush against the men of Amʹmon, Moʹab, and the mountainous region of Seʹir who were invading Judah, and they struck each other down. 23 And the Amʹmon·ites and the Moʹab·ites turned against the inhabitants of the mountainous region of Seʹir to destroy and annihilate them; and when they finished with the inhabitants of Seʹir, they helped to destroy one another."

I just read this thread this morning...but I grinned when I got to your last post...because this is simply how Jehovah works...provided things work out. (Either way...Jehovah WILL provide)

This point was actually brought out to me by a sister who's 2025 has been absolutely full of moments like this...and this was her thought: "No matter what "enemy" you're facing, Tim...with Jehovah...you NEVER have to "outfight" them...you simply have to "OUTTRUST" them!"

I'm glad you and your husband have experienced this first hand...and even though I know you don't want to brag...this is one time I think your situation should be used and shared...because it's NEVER wrong to brag in or about our God...Jehovah!

Thank you for sharing...and allowing us all to see an example of this in real time! Let us know the final outcome please!

So we have been praying for sure.

Oh my sis!  I had you on my mind for prayer, and before I could finish - I read your wonderful message -

Jehovah is so faithful - my eyes were actually stinging, hurting with joyfulness for you and yours!
