Wetware ?

Recommended Posts

What is it?

I had to look it up since no description was given in the OP

This is what I found with Google.

Is this what this thread is about?

Organic computing: Wetware computing utilizes organic materials, most commonly living neurons, to function as a computing system.

Brain-on-a-chip: A common approach involves growing small clumps of human brain cells, known as organoids, on a microfluidic chip. This platform allows researchers to interface with the neurons electronically and stimulate them to perform computations.

Biological vs. silicon: Unlike conventional computers that rely on transistors, wetware computers use biological processes. They are potentially much more energy-efficient, with the human brain operating on a tiny fraction of the power that current AI systems require.

There is no ethical dilemma:

  1. Only Jehovah imparts life; lab-grown neural tissue isn’t a human life and has no soul, so using nonsentient cells for research isn’t a sanctity-of-life issue (Ps 36:9; Gen 2:7, NWT).

  2. Organoids are living cells with electrical activity, not persons; man cannot confer life or soul — only Jehovah can — so such research is permissible in principle.

  3. Wetware imitates brain function but does not bear God’s image; there’s no consciousness or personhood involved, so ethical concern about “human life” isn’t triggered (Gen 1:27).

  4. Our boundary is where real human life begins; since organoids aren’t a human, work on them doesn’t violate respect for life given by God.

  5. Electrical signaling ≠ Jehovah’s life force; without that life, there’s no soul/person, so the research itself isn’t inherently objectionable.

  6. We value life-saving science, but manipulation of human life is the red line; organoids are sub-personal tissue, not humans.

  7. Moral status follows life from Jehovah; because organoids lack personhood, they don’t carry that status — research is acceptable within clear limits.

  8. Man cannot create a soul or a person; organoids remain tissue samples, so the sanctity-of-life principle isn’t breached.

  9. Respect for life stands, but here there is no human life to sanctify; caution applies, yet the category isn’t “human.”

  10. Conclusion: not a human, not a soul, not an image-bearer; research is acceptable so long as embryos or actual persons aren’t used (Eccl 12:7).

Wetware computing does not raise a true ethical dilemma for Christians. These organoids are not human lives but cellular systems without consciousness, soul, or identity. Only Jehovah imparts the life force that makes a person a living soul (Genesis 2:7; Ecclesiastes 12:7; Psalm 36:9). As long as such research stays within its limits—avoiding embryos, cloning, or any attempt to create or manipulate actual human life—it does not violate the sanctity of life that belongs solely to God.
