The first sentence makes your answer incorrect. The sentance has "have", not "had".

If you had shown an image of a carton of a dozen eggs the answer would have been obvious!B)

From my perspective, there are 2 eggs on the left, two on the right and two in the middle.

All depends on your point of view and/or perspective

So, if you are using

  • their position in the carton or picture - since it is on an angle - 2 or 3 would both be correct answers.
  • the grammar, since it uses "have", not "had", 6 should be a correct answer
  • using the logic of the usage, 4 or 0 would both be acceptable answers

The overall ambiguousness of this riddle makes it so, no matter what answer people give, 99% will always be wrong since there is not a single correct answer.

The answer is 6, as the statement says "I have 6 eggs" and the question asks "How many are left?". What the rest of the statements have no bearing of what was done with the supposedly other eggs, as you have 6 eggs at the end.

Now, if the statement said "I had 6 eggs", then what is said afterward would would have a bearing on the amount thatbwould be left. The answer then be considered anything as 4 to 0.

Most would answer 0 as they would be thinking each of the eggs would have a particular ending stipulated.

But the more more discerning would answer 4, as you could break 2 eggs, fry those 2 eggs, then eat those 2 fried eggs.

For those who are out there could have said 3, 2 or 1 as some eggs could have suffered from one and/more particular endings.

If the question asked "How many did I start with?" Then the answer could be 12 to 8, depending on if each egg suffered a fate individually or multiple scenarios.

Thus the riddle is not ambuigous, but  it relies that you must need to have attention to detail on the words used and the order that they are used.

Ahhh ... but, the explanation just given ignores the other ambiguous portion of the riddle. Had the riddle simply been a word question, the reasoning on 6 being the only correct answer could have been supported. However, the riddle is accompanied by a picture, and the picture must be considered. Depending on how you view the picture (see above) acceptable answers, as the riddle is worded, would have to include 2 or 3 because, depending on how it is viewed, since either 2 or three eggs "are left".

So basically, 4 is the answer given by those who assume the questioner has poor grammar and 6 is the answer given by those who are used to dealing with Leprechauns and their tricky ways.
