  1. The S-287 Cybersecurity Guidelines is the latest guidelines on this topic. We do not have any specific recommendation such as mandating requiring specific special characters or combination of different casings. Actually, some cybersecurity experts argue against setting such recommendations—The primary goal of a more secure password system is password diversity. Enforcing specific laws help hackers to guess the passwords more easily. For example, this is what Microsoft writes in their Password Policy Recommendations: “Password complexity requirements reduce key space and cause users to act in predictable ways, doing more harm than good. . . . Some complexity requirements even prevent users from using secure and memorable passwords, and force them into coming up with less secure and less memorable passwords.” [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/misc/password-policy-recommendations] Every one has an experience making a password that goes like “Jw19141914!” just because it said “you need at least one special character in your password.”
  2. I loved A Silent Voice 聲の形 a lot. It's been a bit too long time since I've seen the film, however. So I don't remember this particular character well. But I can indeed say the film depicts some of the dark and grim parts of East Asian / Japanese society, such as school bullying, and so forth. Also, the main character (Shouko) was really well written. I liked her a lot. And the story is too much sad for her.
  3. This has been announced a while back for us. The Korea Branch will be managing the former Hong Kong Branch area, as seen in the following jw.org “Contact Us” page: https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/contact/hong-kong/ Edit: I have found the congregation announcement. I have translated it with DeepL and will share it here since it’s related.
  4. The 2014 “Study Guide for God’s Word” (sgd) brochure is a publication specifically designed for language fields where the 2013 New World Translation is currently not finished in full. For example, publishers in Japan used this until 2019 when the revised Bible came out that year. This publication is not really needed in English, because all the information of this book are already included in the 2013 New World Translation. *** nwtsty A4 The Divine Name in the Hebrew Scriptures *** https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=1001070204&srctype=wol&srcid=share You can share the links from the above 2013 NWT and share this instead, as this is the one most people are using. You likely downloaded the publication long time ago when it was available. — A similar publication to this is 2014 “An Introduction to God’s Word.” (igw) This publication is not available in English likewise, but all the content of the book is already publicly accessible via 2013 NWT.
  5. The brothers do not publish what was changed except for very small portions of books. We used to do it more in earlier times when paper book was more convenient, so we can mark or cut the papers of the book from when it was changed. (Good times.) Many times, the brothers in this web site will be glad to let you know what was changed. It is easy to compare with computer programs if we already had previous publication downloaded. But the society does not actively let us know what has changed.
  6. That's interesting that you posted this exactly the 10 years after the incident. The MH370 went missing exactly 10 years ago, on March 8, 2014. It's crazy to think how in this digital age, a jumbo sized commercial airplane housing tons of tracking devices, machineries, making communications with the surface, can just go missing off the radar without a trace.
  7. The Library of Babel contains every piece of literature that has ever been, and ever will be. It also includes your very own post and my own (search through the search tab)!
  8. It’s not rare to find two music that sounds similar to each other sometimes—especially if it’s just a part of the music. There is a limit to the number of possible musical arrangements that can sound harmonic to human ears. If it can happen between two secular music, it can happen to our theocratic music as well. For example, some people have suggested the similarities between If I Could Fly by Joe Satriani, and Viva La Vida by Coldplay. Examples like these show that such similarities are abdundant in the music industries, and are most likely unintended. As for the similarity between With Eyes of Faith and You Raise Me Up, I can hear the similarities, but I doubt someone was influenced by it, considering the origin of the music. I remember some time ago, we talked about other examples in the Theocratic Music thread. In that thread, I mentioned this particular example:
  9. Reddit Apps do not give the option to send modmails on private subreddits. You can try visit the subreddit on desktop to access that feature.
  10. Well, I can’t say for sure if that would be a good idea. The only way to find out would be to try actually implement it in your community. Thanksfully you can always change the settings later on. Perhaps another option that you could choose is the ‘restricted’ subreddit, where the public may browse the subreddit, but only approved users may submit. But I can easily see how this can also be abused. Reddit community types: public — anyone can view and submit restricted — anyone can view, but only some are approved to submit links private — only approved members can view and submit premium only — only reddit premium members can view and submit
  11. If the subreddit is private, how would the new people go and join, or test if the subreddit is legitimate? Private subreddit in this context means, a subreddit that is completely closed off from the rest of the Internet. As for this website, some parts of the site is accessible to the World Wide Web. So it is easy to verify the genuity of the forum. But if your Reddit community is completely private, that would not be possible.
  12. That is not the meaning of positive used in that sentence. The word positive can also mean assured, certain. positive 1 of 2 adjective pos·i·tive ˈpä-zə-tiv ˈpäz-tiv Synonyms of positive 1 a : formally laid down or imposed : PRESCRIBED positive laws b : expressed clearly or peremptorily her answer was a positive no c : fully assured : CONFIDENT positive it was her book https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/positively
  13. Latin typeface for Noto Sans CJK uses Source Hans by Adobe. That may explain why there are differences in the fonts. See noto-fonts/noto-cjk #224. I don’t think that’s related to what we are discussing here though. If I am correct, the font typeface displayed in the blue field actually appears differently from device to device. Which means the exact font may be dependant on the device that you are using. For example, in my device, the character ‘2’ has right angle curve when curving in the bottom, but in your picture, it is curving in an angle less than 90 degrees.
  14. You can still order older bound volumes. In Korea Branch, vol20 through vol23 in English are available for order.
  15. It depends on what you mean by need I guess. As a book it is still a good resource for personal study and meditation in my opinion. The book is also not listed in the listed of items to be discarded for the literature servants. On the other hand, our method of preaching has now changed drastically. Rather than to "reason" with the householder, we try to find those who are "disposed" for everlasting life. On that sense, it may be said it is not "needed" anymore. Exactly. Many brothers seem to use Watchtowers or publications from older than 1980s, or even 1970s or even beyond just to support their opinions. However if some topic hasn't been said again the the last few years or so, I would be cautious in using it. I would personally go even further and I wouldn't even use articles older than 2000s. That is the now recommended year listed in the "list of items to be discarded." That year recommended by the branch has been constantly been updating very fast recently. Jehovah's chariot is moving very fast.
