What do you do for a living?

Recommended Posts

I'm a stay-at-home Mum of an 8year old boy. He is 8 going on 18 lol.

Ha! My 8 year old is the same way. Thinks she is so grown up.

Perhaps in some ways. And a long long way to go in others :)

Just curious and makes for a liesurely general topic.

I am a tile and marble setter by trade, and sometimes that translates into complete kitchen and bath remodeling. I am grouting a backsplash today, but am letting my helper do most of the work while I play on the computer ;). About to go to the Home Depot for something in a moment though.

For 10 years I have actually really enjoyed what I do. But this last year I saw my first knee trouble, and currently am trying to deal with some tendonitis in my elbow. I am wondering if it is time to think about a career change of sorts.

So, what do you do for a living?

Sorry, a bit late for joining the conversation:

I'm a supply teacher. Happiest when I'm out on the service with my brothers and sisters talking about Jehovah God though(tu)

After being made redundant from many jobs, Husband and I found being self-employed the best option for us and we are like the American Pickers (History Channel)>:D<. We pay an accountant a fee to look over our accounts keep us straight with the Inland Revenue (Tax) and hire a space in an Antique Market, shared with others, so we only have to be in the shop once or twice a week - leaving us free to join midweek Field Service. We like the 'Nostalgia Business' specialising in old toys, TV, Sci-Fi and historical memorabilia. We do 6 major Toy and Collectable Fairs a year. There are many more fairs in UK, but mostly on Sunday, so no good to us. Could never go back to working 9 am-5pm, 5 or 6 days a week! We have had some shoplifting thefts and it does have it's ups and downs moneywise(td) , but who doesn't these days. We have discovered lots of interesting stuff on our travels, but no interest in collecting it ourselves - take it's photo and move it on - Why be a theft target?

A Warrior for the U.S. Military and Now a Full Time Warrior for Jehovah. ( I Love getting benefits from working for the Devinne kingdom much better.)

I am 100% Disabled Veteran. I've seen a lot in this world and been to many lands. I think this has made it easy to talk to just about anyone in the field.

After leaving high school l worked with a bank as a cashier, the bank got liquidated then l worked with a company as a cashier again, l later decided to leave and go back to school because of the situation in the country, in other to get a good job. I studied accountancy at the polythechnics and had an HND. I started working in a company that imports iron & steel (owned by a brother) as a store supervisor for over 5yrs, but last year november, the company closed down due to mismanagement. (still owing me 4mths salary, aug.- nov. 2010 with other benefits) And since then l have been looking for another job. No job is forthcoming now due to the situation in this country, life has not being so easy for me, but l have put my confidence in Jehovah that one day, he will turn his attention to me again. I did aux. pio. in march & aprli, even this month of May, although l did not apply fomarly, my taget is still 50hrs because l have determined to always make sure that my hours will not be less than that again until l will be able to get a job to support myself so as to be able to reg. pioneer. Experience in life have taught me that it is only Jehovah one can serve and feel appreciated and it is only in his service that one will not be disappointed.

I've worked as a cashier, receptionist for doctors, office work at IBM (where I met my husband), then I spent seven years homeschooling so there is a large gap in my work history. In the last couple of years I've studied Graphic Design but I cannot see myself doing anything but freelance in that area. I applied for a part-time position as a library assistant recently which I would have loved. I think my application was a bit late as I didn't see the position in time. I'm hoping that something will come up again in that area, that would be my dream job. In the meantime I think I will get back to photography and illustration and build up my royalty free portfolios that I hold with a few online stock agencies.

I've worked in many different restaurants/cafe's but am officially trained as a legal secretary, i left that job to go regular pioneering for a year and a half while self-employed cleaning (due to circumstances i had to come off). Currently though i am also unemployed, i can get interviews but can't seem to get any further lol!!! Although i'm also doing a market stall on a friday to try and get a little bit extra but it can be very hit and miss (dependant on weather/tourists). I'm considering trying to do something else in the self-employed area, but due to recent health problems that unfortunately i can see getting worse I'm gonna be kinda limited.

I've done various jobs at a printing company, was a resident assistant in an assisted living facility, but massage therapy is what I love doing. I've been a licensed massage therapist for five years in the state of Georgia and I hope I can continue to practice massage in the new system. When I told a sister what I did for a living she said I'll be out of a job in the new system because we won't have aches and pains anymore. We may not have arthritis, sciatic pain or rotator cuff injuries anymore but we'll still be tired from working all day. I would like to think that people would enjoy a massage to relax.

What do ya'll think? Does any one else have a job or hobby they would like to do in the new system?

Well, I just hope we still have computers, because I hate yard work and would make a terrible farmer!

Me too!

I have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, but have not found a job in that field (or related) in this city. I was an intern at local power company for a year and was even promised a full time spot once I graduated. Right before I graduated they started the layoffs. Now I've been working as a room reservations agent for major hotel corporation. I've really had to work hard on my patience with annoying guests. It's a job, and I'm grateful to Jehovah for it, but I'm still looking for something where I can use my degree. I got baptized last July so I haven't been looking out of state because I was in the middle of working towards that goal and now I want to establish myself firmly in the congregation before I start thinking about leaving the city (something I've always wanted to do).

I'm a Web Designer/Developer/Administrator by trade. I've been doing it for almost 13 years now and my arms/wrists hurt badly, so like Dismal_Bliss I'm looking for some sort of career change (if possible) in this system. I've done the self-employment thing and working for someone else and I'm really trying hard to figure out some sort of arrangement to work for myself again at home (if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears) as I am really craving to have a fuller share in Jehovah's service and am ready to spend as less time as possible around worldly people in the workplace. The only worldly people I want to be around anymore are people I meet in the ministry.

I recently became unemployed, but I currently have a pending opportunity at a major well known company that would pay extremely well. I am struggling with my decision on this job because of a few issues: the commute would be quite a long drive through heavy traffic (more time away from family), and the higher pay I fear will make it a lot easier to think about materialistic things (potential to lose focus on the more important things), plus the fact that my hands/wrists are begging me to stop, and I'm in a short-window where if I make the right decision I could dramatically increase my share in Jehovah's service if my circumstances align closely enough.

But alas 1 Tim. 5:8, so I keep on keeping on, biding my time praying and waiting on Jehovah's will and seeing where his direction leads me.

I know the feeling, as you continue to seek the kingdom first, and acknowledge Jehovah in all your way. He will direct you path.

On the subject of work (and not being sure if I should make a new thread for this), does anyone work fulltime (approximately 40 hours or more per week) and is a regular pioneer? I'm thinking about doing this, and would like input from others who have done or are doing this. My teachers (a couple) did this for about 1.5 years and they tell me it's very tough but is doable, especially with Jehovah's help. Thanks!

Yes working full time and pioneering is difficult, but doable, you would have to do 18 hrs a week. About 2.5 hours a day? roughly.

with Jehovahs help and strong desire it can be done many brothers and sister do it worldwide! You can encorporate, telephone witnessing, informal, letter writing, yes it's doable!

well until a couple of months ago i was a sales man for a hygiene company here in portugal, but the hours and the stress af the work was to much i was negleting the meetings and my family, so my wife and i prayed to Jeová and made the decition... now i am a distributor in the same company. i earn a little bit less (25%) but now i have some afternoons of and it is less stressing.

so... it is better this away, we have less money but a better relation with Jeová.

in the past i did a lot of things (still have 29 years old) since pizza delivery guy:drool:, factory worker, sales responsable in a port wine company, mecanic, painter, carpenter... etc

but i would like very much to be a farmer.

I work for the city I live in for the Finance department. This is my first year pioneering and I am working full-time. Fortunately, it is 4 - 10 hour days and I have 3 days (Fri, Sat & Sun) to make my time. One long day on Friday - 7 or 8 hours and a little less on Saturday and less on Sunday. It has been really hard - especially as things need to be done at home. I am not sure I will be able to do this next year. But I wanted to try it. I have been trying to go out one evening - maybe phone territory or calls so I can shorten Saturday or Sunday.

Plan ahead as if Armageddon will not come in your lifetime, but lead your life as if it will come tomorrow (w 2004 Dec. 1 page 29)

Thank you sister Dawnmarie for the encouraging words!

Thank you as well brother Jerry. Wow, that does sound very hard, but I'm sure you are enjoying the spiritual benefits. My schedule varies weekly but I probably average 34-38 hours over the whole year. I can work anywhere between 6 am - 11 pm. This month I'm doing auxiliary and I've been working 3-11 pm mostly so that has helped.

Finally the cat's out of the bag. Was going to ask you if you ever drove for the society ? Ran into a brother a few years ago that looks just like you.

And you're a World Class Body Builder Trainer out of Henderson NV ?
