Virtual Covered Dish Invitation

Recommended Posts

I am going to try this again.  It did not fly last time but maybe if I post far enough in advance there will be more of a response.

I know everyone on here likes to eat.  So we will be hosting a covered dish get- to- gather on Saturday, March 1st 2014. at 2pm>

Everyone is invited to bring one of their favorite dishes.  Please post a history along with it (family favorite, your favorite, the first time you made it it was a flop etc) and post a PICTURE of the dish!  It can be anything you like!  Please put the recipe and why you like it (simple to make, inexpensive, your go to dish. etc)  This can be really fun if you participate.  Don't be a lurker.  Join in the fun!

This gives us a little over two and a half months to prepare.  I am sure most people have a camera with their phone so you can upload a picture and story.

I will be the first to RSVP!

Who else will attend?  Come on now!  You know if it was real food you would be there!

Thankful to be among friends everyday!

As long as I am not busy with the RBC, count me in, too.

I try not to be CHICKEN when it comes to breaking BREAD since I enjoy DESERTS.

(just a few hints as to the kind of food I like)

My Mum is Queen Chef when it comes to making Pavlovas.

Any place she goes BBQ's etc she is most the time requested to make one.

for years I have been trying to master making the techinical Meringue side, get the eggs whites stiff & crispy but still fluffy inside like marshmallow.

I finally conquered, So this is my story & so we had some friends leaving my cong to go south, She cant have anything dairy or with glutten. So I made this Pavlova. & found a recipe for fondant Icing.

which work wonders...

So to make a Pav.

6 egg whites. You need to separate the yokes.

a good teaspoon of vanilla extract,

& about half a cup of caster sugar..

So beat the whites first & when you see the shinny beautiful white. like snow effect & nearly standing up.

add the vanilla & slowly keep adding the sugar..( this stops it from losing the air)

make sure you oven is hot then once you put it in turn down the temp. or better still leave it in over night as this will make it go krispy on the outside & dont open the door..

***************************************************************************************************************************************

~~~~~To make the fondant...~~~~
__________________________
2 egg whites & again separate the yokes,
some vanilla extract
juice from 2 lemons &
3 cupps of icing sugar.
so beat egg whites then add the sugar but make sure to sift the icing sugar easier for mixing & add lemon & vanilla.
************************************************************************************************************************************
so I layered the fondant on the Pav..
Then to the rest of the fondant I added some tin passion fruit.
& this is how it looked.
after I added some rasberries. I like to buy the frozen as they are a cheaper way out..
Have fun Leslie.
