Secret Features Hidden in Your Smart TV

Recommended Posts

InfoWars is a self-admitted conspiracy theory channel, their reports are intentionally lacking in facts, and are created solely for the purpose of scare-mongering.

For example, this InfoWars "report" claims that the iPhone is designed to harvest hair, analyze the DNA, and send a report back to Apple.

While data is gathered and transmitted. It would not be an issue for most people. But if it has a camera and mikes and is connected to the internet, it can be hacked. Laptops and desktop computers have already been used. It can even happen inadvertently. The manager where i work didn't turn of Skype properly and found he was being watched by the employees he was previously talking to.

Alex Jones is well known conspiracy theorist. He believes that Obama is the antichrist, global warming is the liberal's(democrats) agenda, moon landing is a hoax.

I hope I posted this in the right forum......if not, moderators, please feel free to move it to where it should be.

I was thinking about getting one of these Smart TV, now I'm not sure. If you have one be careful of what you say and do in the privacy of your own home.

Since what we say shouldn't be a problem for us if you are worried about the camera there are several companies that sell privacy shields for the camera when it is not in use. Or just sit front of the TV when you study the Watchtower. Maybe the hackers will learn something.

Great visual image though!  :bouncing:

BUT I have to have my ROKU to watch tv.jw.org  :touche:

I must say - these types of things make me want to go out and buy a smart TV. I need someone keeping an eye on me regularly - OH WAIT!! I already have that 2 Chron. 16:9

Have fun

My tablet connects directly to my T.V. via a HDMI/macro cable to watch tv.jw.org! All I had to do is buy the cable and nothng else! Best of all, I can connect to any t.v. in the house to watch!

Shali, all your TVs have HDMI connections?

I am still "old school" with TVs from before there were HDMI connectors. Mine does have the RCA connections.

People worry about these things but for get one thing. You don't have to hook it up to the internet. You don't have to let it send stuff through wifi. You can shut down the features you don't want.

infowars is fear-mongering (Alex Jones makes a great deal of money off selling food supplements and snake-oil), but it's good to know about these things. Back when the first iPhone came out it was forbidden at the defense contractor I worked for because it had huge backdoors for data-theft.

Anybody paying a little attention lately can see that intrusion into privacy is becoming a common thing, even for "people with nothing to fear"

The fact that you don't hook this thing up to wi-fi doesn't mean it doesn't have a back door to other people's wifi. As far as I know, even an electric socket can be used to create an internet connection, albeit a slow one. And the fact that you "disable" certain functions doesn't mean the device is actually disabling it for the NSA, does it...

So in summary, if it were the great tribulation and I had a small meeting at my house, just to be safe I'd unplug any device that has a camera, a microphone or a loudspeaker attached to it or put it in another room. Call me paranoid, but there's ample reason to become paranoid with all the developments in the recent years.

Yes, both of them have HDMI connections because I bought one in 2006 for my husband's anniversary gift and got the other one on a black Friday sale (has a built in DVD player, so didn't have to have a seperate DVD player) so they are both new enough to have HDMI, even though by today's standards they would be considered old already.

  • 3 weeks later...

I recall 20 years ago - overhearing someone in our radius praying

with his child through my child's video monitor.  I had just turned off the screen unit and

ran upstairs to turn off the receiver unit...and there it was - loud and very clear!~  I alerted

my neighbors as she had a monitor also! A few years afterwards there was a news segment

about criminals driving around with monitors to see who had that exact monitor to allow easy

assess for break ins!

Most of them are very much scrabbled now...but I still make sure I turn both units off!  Same with

internet connections and passwords for smart tv's etc...

Question does anyone on board use the newer video calling app called "Line."???  I have been

hearing about this a lot on the radio and wanted to know more about it!
