Moon Reader Pro 3.0

I use a file manager (ES file explorer) and go to the Montano folder and copy and paste the saved file to my laptop via WiFi. but you can also go to the file you want to backup in Mantano's list of files, put a check mark in the box next to is and choose "share". There you will get choices to email it, upload it to Google drive, dropbox (if installed) and Box.net, etc.

Thank you, Chuck. But just saving the ePub file doesn't save the annotations and highlights, does it? Because I open the file with a different app and none of them appear. There must be something else that must be copied too.

Maybe a different app doesn't show the highlights created by Mantano and vice versa. But I send files from the Mantano app on my phone to my tablet and the highlights are still there. I'll experiment a little and let you know..

I have just used Mantano to highlight something in a magazine, then checked the file's timestamp and it hadn't changed. So it must store everything somewhere else. Maybe it's being synced from your phone to your tablet over Dropbox.

I apologize, I was wr... wro... wrong (it's hard for me to say that word)  :)

I must have been thinking of a different app, I have tried so many. I have been routinely saving the highlighted files on my computer, but have not had the need to use them. Which I'm glad because I just tested a saved highlighted file and you're right, the highlighting didn't save with the file. It's really strange because I am sure I have done it with Mantano when I first started using it?

Interesting, I don't have to "Open as epub3" - I just open them and the scriptures pop up.

I don't care about the annotations. I use PDF's along with ezPDF for the Bible Teach book and the Magazines and underline in that. With my Galaxy Note 12.2, I have 2 windows open, with the study edition in ezPDF reader and the simplified edition in Mantano Reader, scaled down at the bottom of my tablet which I hold in portrait style. I only use the ePub for pop up scriptures, nothing else.

That's because there is an option in settings to always open as EPUB3

I still couldn't find the perfect app for me... I like the perfectly formatted pdf file and use ezpdf, but it lacks the scriptures links... On the other hand, Mantano has the best formatted aspect in respect to epub, but the epub3 implementation is awful... On the other hand moon reader has a perfect implementation of epub3, has lots of customisation... But the way it formats the book is just awful to me...

I end up switching apps all the time :(

Joao, we are twin souls. It seems you were reading my mind!

I hope apps will be improving with time. The world of apps is still almost in its infancy.

Thank you, Brigette. That's the way I have them too. But it only allows to put a book in one category. For me it would be very useful to be able to put them in more than one. Moon+ Reader's author promised he would consider it for a future version.

With the tags feature in Moon + Reader I am able to put multiple tags on my files. In effect, they are in multiple categories. My December KM has a "KM" tag and a "Current" tag. When I click on "current", only the December KM as well as the October issue of the Watchtower, "Bible Teach" book, etc... are filtered for selecting because they have that tag. I do believe the author has done as he has promised. This though is not new. The previous version did this as well.

Thank you, Tony. Probably the problem is simply that I am not used to doing it that way, and just need some practice. :)

Carlos, maybe you and Joao should collaberate on your own "perfect" app!

You are right, Brigette, and all app makers should listen carefully to what we both tell them.

For me, the perfect reading app would be Mantano Reader adding real support for ePub3 and backup capabilities. And the cherry on the cake would be the possibility of manually annotating ePub files, writing with a stylus or drawing lines, arrows, question marks and all kinds of symbols I use to schematize the content of the lesson. There are many apps that allow that with PDF files, but none with ePub, so I guess the very structure of those files makes it impossible.

Carlos, has it been explained in this thread the difference between an ePub3 file and an ePub file? If so, I've completely missed it. Could you explain?

Epub3 is a new specification that allows more types of content inside an ePub file. It allows including videos, sounds, but above all, it allows footnotes to be displayed as popup boxes, which is great for scriptures (and for footnotes, of course).

So in this thread basically ePub3 = popup scriptures. :)

The ePub files available at JW.org are ePub3 but they are displayed correctly also in apps that don't support ePub3. In those, when you click on a scripture it takes you to the end of the chapter, where all scriptures are listed. Musky is the only person in the world who likes it that way. :poke:
