Recovering Gold from old electronics

Guys I didn't realize how easy it was to recover some of the gold from electronics. A few of the videos I saw on Youtube showed how to remove the gold tabs from circuit boards and components that you would find in Computers, tv's, dvd players anything that has circuit boards. Search on youtube for removing gold. Its amazing how easy it is.

 

I guess I am thinking that if you sell a computers to a metal recyclers for $2 why not take a few minutes and take the gold out of it yourself and make $10 off it then sell the thing to them for the $2?

When I was little, I read that my family's wind up mantle clock had jewels incabloc.  So I pulled it apart, only to find no jewels!  Do you know how hard it is to put a clock together again????  No youtube then

 

I think it's great to recycle, upcycle and reclaim, so good onya!

Well if you figure gold is still at an all time high at $1500 to $1700 an ounce why not. Some things are more worth while than others but if you can make a few bucks to help your monthly income why not.

We have a brother in our hall that picks up used/dead computers for free, as public service.

Makes a fair living mining them for gold.

Would be quite easy for anyone even in an apartment to do this. You would have to keep it organized but you could make quite a bit. Be a good way for a pioneer to support themselves.

Watched some of the videos - I could say interesting ..... however, even though the price for gold was mentioned several times, the cost of the materials/chemicals needed for the extraction process was never mentioned nor was where to sell the gold for full dollar value.

 

In the video he got enough gold from 100 memory modules to come to $83 (today's US price) if you actually have someplace to sell the gold for that price, but how much did all those things he used cost? How much did he actually make?

Can you easily dispose of the rubbish that is left?

Also many products that remove the gold is very hazardous,

so be careful and don't ruin your health.
