Pictures of where we live

That's right...

We also used to have 'HALT' instead of 'STOP'. But someone took that to court when they were booked, demonstrated that 'halt' was a German word, not English... all the signs were changed.

We don't have multi-language signs like Canada, either.

Looking forward to when you post pics of 'where you live', Gabe...

In the interim, here's a couple more of my locale.

There's a Rest Area about 3kms from home, often there's as many as 20 camps set up there, campervans, caravans, motorhomes and tents included. There's only one in this pic, but there's people there with cycles as there was some kind of cycling event on:

attachicon.gif0515dlvnrestareabikes.jpg

Sometimes it's just a spot for a middle-aged couple to stop for a cuppa to break a journey in their MGB:

attachicon.gif0515dlvnrestareaMGB.jpg

One of the unique things about our little 'town' (or village...) is that we have just one operating business in the 'CBD', which used to be a thriving shopping centre of course.

The one business is an enterprise which manufactures tee shirts, promotional clothing and caps, other promotional material, produces travel magazines and the like. Because it has so much going in and out by mail it's worth their while to keep the little Post Office going despite the fact that just 135 households use its services. Among other things it probably saves them five trips a day to the next PO, about 10kms away. And their surplus shopfront space is the domain of a local craft group:

I just realised I got this post mixed up with the other post you made. That's where you Been something like that....lols.

This is our Twickenham-mobile sitting outside our house and fading in the sun. :(

We needed a minibus that would fit in our driveway, had a tail lift, and room to set up a small bed inside for Emma. After searching for 11 months I found this 1 week before our Twickenham convention in 2007! So we were able to tune in the radio and listen in from the disabled car park.

But sadly I haven't been able to drive since autumn 2010, so it was sold.

I googled photos of my area. This aerial view is Fairy Meadow & Towradgi Beach. So probably Sublime or Mt Keira Lookout.

When I was a kid it was commonplace for us to go to Sublime Point, I got thoroughly sick of it!

Whenever rellies came from the bush, we all piled into the car and went for a look down there but we rarely descended the hill into the metropolis. I do remember one day we did and went to the beach somewhere along there.

I remember putting a zac in the big binoculars and looking down at people in their backyards, too. The perils of being part of the view rather than having the view!

Remembering more... it was Thirroul Beach...

Come on, folks, we need some more pics of where YOU live!

In the meantime, here's one I took the other day of the pickup in my yard:

This is one end of the main street, while there's a very nice park that runs along the creek right through town:

I had a few pictures I considered posting but decided not to because this is publicly visible.

I think that most of the places we live are publicly visible.

I like to see areas where our brothers and sisters live, not necessarily their immediate house, but the area.

I am not sying I am Superman, I am only saying that nobody has ever seen Superman  and me in a room together.

On another forum I use we sometimes post photos of cars...

Some complain that the number plates shouldn't be shown, they should be blotted out.

I can't understand that, they get driven on the road after all, for way more to see (and more locally) than could ever see them on a forum!

All the same, Carole, pics of the corner of the world in which you reside would be fine. I note also that you only identify your location as 'New England', which can cover a multitude of places. But it's also a lovely area in the fall, how about you see what you can dig up?

I may have met them!  If it's the couple I'm thinking of they were at the hearing aid clinic I temped at for a bit of time.  Is Arlene a remarry after Bill became a widower?    :)

24kms away we have the Stanthorpe Kingdom Hall:

G'day Raymond,

We visited Stanthorpe when we came to Australia (my dad was a caravan fanatic so we spent quite a bit of time touring Queensland when we first got here.) I always liked Stanthorpe, though it was way too cold for me then.

I live in Toowoomba now and often transport patients to Stanthorpe Hospital. I really want to see snow and, apparently, it snows in Stanthorpe occasionally. The only problem is that we normally do our step-downs in the afternoon/evening.

Perhaps one day we'll get an early morning transfer and I'll see some snow. I don't think the escort nurse would appreciate me stopping to play in it though. Surely 5 minutes wouldn't hurt! :)

Stanthorpe Hospital is about the only one that will offer us (the nurse and I) a meal if we get there late. The staff there are always kind and helpful. Hopefully they're the same with patients.

Niall, it's quite likely that you encounter Sister Penny Lang in your work...

Penny is also involved in patient transport between Stanthorpe and Toowoomba, being based at Stanthorpe.

As for hoping to see snow at Stanthorpe, good luck! When we moved her over six years ago we expected to see it some time within a year or two... but it hasn't snowed here once since that time!

I haven't yet, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open for her. There is a Brother that does Patient Transport from Dalby to Toowoomba, for QAS, and I've managed to catch up with him. Im based in Toowoomba but we will step-down to smaller hospitals in all directions. I've been as far north as Kingaroy, west to Miles and Tara, South to Kilarney, Stanthorpe, Texas, and Inglewood, plus everything in between. I've also been east to Brisbane, and Gold Coast University Hospital, though that's less common as they're usually done by helicopter.

And you made me feel better about not doing early morning transfers to Stanthorpe. :) I guess if I want to see snow I'll actually have to plan a holiday to somewhere I'll be guaranteed to see it.

Is that your horse trailer?  Does your family rope and ride?  It reminds me of the song by Toby Keith---I should have been a cowboy!

I can see why you miss it. Lovely!

G'day Leslie,

It's pretty boring and repetitive work that, almost always, had to be done an hour ago.

The photo I posted is about a year old and we've had much more equipment installed - usually in a position where I'll be guaranteed to smash my head into it if I'm not careful.

We operate a similar Patient Transport Service to that of Queensland Ambulance but we are run by Toowoomba Base Hospital. So, to prevent any confusion they refer to my vehicle as the "Hospital Bus" and I'm the "Bus Driver." There are other drivers, but I'm the only one assigned to this task on a permanent basis.

We run two shifts, morning and afternoon. The morning shift is the busiest. That's the time we run patients to other Hospitals for Medical treatment we can't do the Base Hospital - we don't have an MRI machine, or do Radiation, for example. So we will take patients to other sites for treatment and bring them back when they are done. Then we have"virtual" patients at various Nursing Homes. We collect these ones and bring them back to the Hospital for treatment, then return them when they are done. The above patients have an escort nurse, so I just get them into their appointment then race off for my next job.

We will also do discharges to Nursing Homes and other care facilities if the patient is aggressive or has other conditions that prevent them travelling by normal means. Then, in the afternoon, or if it's quiet, we will do step-downs to other hospitals. The most we'll do is 2 hours in one trip. That includes all drops, and hand-over times. Anything longer than 2 hours is too much for the last patient.

Patients must be stable before we transport them. We've only had two incidents in the last 12 months. One patient crashed about 5 minutes after leaving the hospital. We called for backup and got the patient back to the Hospital. The second was an elderly patient and we were about 30 minutes away from the nearest Hospital. She was NFR (Not For Resuscitation) so there wasn't much we could do except make her comfortable and keep going. However she survived and, as far as I know, she is still alive today.

I'm assigned to the Admission, Discharge, and Transition Ward. When I'm not busy I generally help out in the ward. Then, if ADTW is not busy, I'll head over to Critical Care or Emergency and help out there. The Coordinator and the Unit Manager are pretty good and allow me a fair bit of autonomy if we are not busy. I generally wander off and find something to do. The only condition is that I have to be reachable by phone, and I have to be able to drop what I'm doing and go if I need to. That's the interesting part of my job - helping in Critical Care and ED. I could be helping restrain a Trauma patient, assisting Medical Imaging with a spinal patient, taking a body to the Mortuary, or just filling the blanket warmer and checking dirty linen. I've even been known to take a bag of rubbish to the compactor for the cleaner - nice guy that I am and all.

I found out that a Sister, from out of town, was in Critical Care for almost two weeks. I felt really bad because I'm in and out of there all the time and I didn't know. She was in an induced coma and wouldn't have known anyway, but I still feel bad. She is now in a regular ward, and I drop in to see her every day. That got me thinking and I managed to make contact with the Brother on the HLC and another who looks after Visitation. They are in a different Congregation but they will let me know if any other Brothers or Sisters are admitted to Hospital. Since I have access to parts of the Hospital that the public don't, I can check in on them at any time of the day or night.

The Sister above came in with nothing. The first time I saw her, after finding out she was a Sister, there was a pamphlet on her table from the Hospital Chaplin. It didn't look as if she had even touched it. When I introduced myself as a Brother, the first thing she asked for was a Bible. :)

Edited to expand NFR, and make some other things a little clearer.
