Victory in Court

A very good news from France !

For some years, we have tried to enter in the prisons as "prison chaplain" (in french : aumônier de prison).

Last week (the 30th of May), we won in court, so the JW of France can now enter in the prisons to counsel and give spiritual encouragement to their fellows who are in jail.

As we are less than 10 JW in the french prisons... the prison authority would refuse this... and so, "simple visit" only were allowed (this was counted as family visit).

As "chaplain", we can now spend more time over there.

This is a very good point to help the Witnesses to be accepted in France (as we always have the "Tax" case in the European Court).

Some may ask : JW in jail ? Why ?

In fact, they were not JW when they did their crime... but they learnt the truth after...

but... less than 10... for a global prison population of 65 000 persons... this is not that bad

David - thank you for the good news! I recently signed up to help with studies in a state womens' prison near here so I appreciated this info. very much. The brother that heads up our program sends us updates and right now, every meeting held inside results in a new record attendance. And there are over 100 women waiting to have bible studies with us. There are many successful experiences coming out of the prison so it's encouraging to hear we will be allowed to expand our work in the France prisons. Jehovah is seeing to it that all his sheep are reached by opening up these previously closed territories.>

The latest news i had about the TAX problem is from the end of the last year : the European Court, unanimously, declared that it was a real problem and they will examine the case.

So... wait and see

if we lose, we will have to pay around 70 000 000 euros to FRANCE... that's quite horrible

I heard the news from a Bethelite about that Saturday morning! I was so happy to hear that Jehovah won that case! Its a nice victory for now. There could some day be a time where the entire world governments bring a similar case to our organization earth-wide.
