How to make medical ice bags

Recommended Posts

I had almost forgotten about this since I have not done it for a long time but I am sure it can be beneficial to you when needed.  Whenever you are in a hurry for a ice bag for a sprain or a medical emergency, just take a ziplock baggy and add 1 part of rubbing alcohol to 2 parts of water. This will keep it very cold but not ice.  Same principal as the "instant" ice bags you buy and snap to make ice bags.  They will stay cold vor approx 20-25 mins which is the recommended time for ice bags anywat.  Plus the bottles of rubbing alcohol in the dollar store make it convenient and inexpensive to have in case of an emergency.  Things to keep on our emergency kits too.

If you want to make the gel packs make the formula 1 cup rubbing alcohol to 2 cups of water and freeze till slushy.  Place this in a thin towel so as not to frostbite the skin

Try it!

Then, if you can, let us know how it works. We appreciate your efforts for the greater good. ..

Glad to help. I'll start with the domestic light beers and progressively use heavier beers. I'll need to try some foreign beers and some with a high alcohol content to see if that affects the cooling ability.

After I determine which beer is most efficient, I'll try some mixed drinks, Rum & Coke, Long Island Ice Tea, etc, to see how they compare...

And why not a Marguerita mix? Grab a spoon, set the zip-loc at the right angle, and you can medicate the inside while the outside is getting relief!!!!!

Perfect idea, except it needs to stay in place for 20-30 minutes.... :whistling:
