I already posted this in pictures, so this is a re-post (Raises my posting numbers.)

 

Many claim the Grand Canyon was formed solely by rain water and the Colorado river, and abetted by Noah's flood.

I have maintained the Colorado was just following the crack in the earth caused by some other phenomena.  

This latest geological episode seems to support my side. Imagine the same event taking place under cap rock which would limit erosion of the columns.

Picture looks like a miniature version of the Grand Canyon to me.
