Intestinal Blockage

Anybody else on this meesage board suffer from intestinal blockages from time to time. I have been hospitalized with this condition 6 times in the past sixteen years. I am typing this from the hospital right now. The initial cause was some botched abdominal surgery back in 2000.

Adhesions are often to blame.

Treatment involves shoving an NG (nasal gastric) tube into the tummy via the nose. Not a pleasant experience.

I don't want to get too inquisitive or get too graphic but are there preventative things that you can do?

The method they have in use to solve that problem? No other way to do it?

Maybe some detective work, via a diary of foods you've eaten, might be the answer to solving the problem. Might be gluten is a culprit?

All of my usual 'tricks' , like laying in a certain position, failed. I haven't had to be hospitalized since 2005.

Alas, the adhesions have now become unfixable aside from surgery...which can cause more adhesions. We really need Doctor Michael. When I say that people ask, "Who is he? Your chiropractor?"

I tell them, "Actually, he's an Archangel."

I am gluten intolerant. Not sure if there is a connection between gluten and adhesions, though. Something to research. Thanks, Sister Peggy.

Thanks, Sister Dorothy. They still haven't taken the NG tube out. They want me to eat but swallowing hurts like there's razor blades in the back of my throat. When it hurts that bad just to swallow jello, I am not anxious to try toast and mashed potatoes. lol

As soon as the NG tube was out, I wanted out.

They wanted to keep me a few more days, but

I'd had enough.  Took over four hours to get discharged.  

 

 

After ten tries, they finally stuck the IV in the thumb of my right hand.

So I had to do everything left-handed.

 

I had a lovely view of the parking garage and the mountains.  

 

I took my IV stand for a stroll and caught the view on the other side.  You

can barely make out Lake Superior in the distance.

 

Didn't get any inquiries from my wall chart, but I did get to witness to

my room mate.

 

I was really looking forward to the meeting this morning, but it was cancelled

due to blizzard conditions.
