Turtles have been known to live for centuries, and researches have found that their organs don’t seem to break down over time. <a data-cke-saved-href='http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/12/science/12turt.html?pagewanted=1&_r=4&ref=science' href='http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/12/science/12turt.html?pagewanted=1&_r=4&ref=science'>The New York Times</a> reports that turtles might even be able to live indefinitely if they are able to avoid predators and disease. In other words, they definitely have a potential to be immortal animals. (Don't miss the 8 <a data-cke-saved-href='https://www.rd.com/culture/smartest-animals/1' href='https://www.rd.com/culture/smartest-animals/1'>smartest animals</a> that learn faster than humans.)</p>

Looks like a vacuum bag with claws.

So its down to the eradication of predators we see as natural now and disease ... then these animals would indeed live forever.  I wonder with other groups of animals if you took the disease/predator factor out of it - would they too live at least longer than they do at present?

Some are so attached to their pets, they treat them like family.  Is that what Jehovah intended? Hard to say imho. Some animals do provide companionship to a certain degree. And we grieve when they die.  Do we give animals undo attention?  Why do turtles live so much longer than a cat or a dog?  I'm a cat person and I've lost so many cats to death and so forth over the years that I don't want to get another cat. it's too heart breaking. Maybe that's imperfection talking but for now, it is what it is.

looking for a pet .. I recommend this one :lol1:

Tardigrades, often called water bears or moss piglets, are near-microscopic animals with long, plump bodies and scrunched-up heads. They have eight legs, and hands with four to eight claws on each. While strangely cute, these tiny animals are almost indestructible and can even survive in outer space.

It is "strangely cute", but what an unusual creature!  It really is indestructible - this article explains it's arsenal to staying alive no matter what.

Maybe our pets can be engineered with similar properties as the moss piglet in the new world?
