His daughter singing the same song some 45 years later. Too bad she is also no longer living.

The guy with the dreads, Fkj, is very talented. He plays with different artist and has a few good videos (music).

I'm old enough that I can remember listening to this hit on my transistor radio, and everybody else's too at the beach in Southern California, as a young boy at the time. Good music, good times!

Times have changed.

The leader singer is a regular pioneer in a Hmong group. We've been close friends for over 30 years...

Always good to hear older music. Thanks for contributing to the thread brother Richard 🙂

The Hebrew word cushi or kushi is an affectionate term generally used in the Bible to refer to a dark-skinned person of African descent.

Just found this song by an Australian-Chinese singer based in Taiwan (she's very international, I think she went to college in the States and lived in Korea for a bit too). Even though it sounds exactly like a new jack swing song from the early 90's/late 80's,  it was released just this year. Excellent production,  catchy song and the translated lyrics and meaning are really cute. It's Dial Up in English (Bo Jie in Chinese pinyin) and has lots of references to using the internet in the 90's and uses that allusion to making a "connection" with someone. Sometimes the cleverness of Chinese lyrics can be completely missed if you don't have a good translation, thankfully I found this site that explained the meaning/lyrics pretty decently when translated using Google

Which beach?

Huntington Beach, aka Surf City in recent years. It was the closest and most accessible beach.
