Garbage Disposals

It's a good idea to periodically check your garbage disposal for corrosion. If the paint has a blister, bubble or is chipping off, the garbage disposal may need to be replaced.

Garbage disposals corrode from the inside and when the corrosion eats through the wall of the disposal unit it will cause the paint to blister and peel, there may even be loose metal flakes. That's a sign of impending disaster!

My garbage disposal unit stopped working recently. I was all ready to replace it when one of the brothers called in for a visit. He offered to take a look at it.

Turns out there was a spoon all jammed up inside.

Haha, phew, that saved me a couple of hundred bucks.

There is a small tool that comes with the disposal that inserts into the bottom of the disposal and let's you check to ensure the disposal can move. Make sure the power is off before you use the tool.
