Carnival Cruise Commercial

Recommended Posts

Naval divers and cave divers are still going through disorienting 'sideways on' corridors and rooms full of floating 'flotsam' working to try to recover the poor souls' bodies who did not get off. So far they've found another 5 that sadly drowned.

The ship's captain abandoned the ship in a lifeboat and left the passengers to fend for themselves!! The TV News gave out the recorded messages of the Port authorities shouting at him to get back to the ship and not just go home!! Far cry from the accepted procedure of Captain off last after seeing to the best of his ability to crew and passengers. Far cry from the likes of Captain Smith of the Titanic - who went down with the ship! In this person's case it seems to have been unbelievably - women children and captain off first! It also seems that he drove the ship way off course to show it off (too close) to island inhabitants and onto what he claims were uncharted rocks that ripped enormous gashes in the bottom of the biggest cruise ship built by Italy.

There was no safety drill for passengers on the ship and it was chaos with people struggling to the muster points on the wrong side of the ship where it was listing and some of the victims seemed to be trapped when their 'muster station' went under water and trapped them. Lifeboats were let off before they were full and lifeboats on the side that tipped were in no position to go safely into the water, so the net result was not enough lifeboats for all the passengers. Some passengers were found still in their cabins because they were not English, so didn't understand the loudspeaker messages and most of the staff only spoke Italian, so were no help to many passengers.

The next big worry is the 2000 tonnes of fuel on the ship. It's in separate compartments, so not all were damaged, but bad weather is coming in and it will shift in the water and it's on rocks - potential environmental disaster if the fuel can't be syphoned off soon.

Costa Concordia: captain ‘says he tripped and fell into lifeboat’

The captain of the crippled Costa Concordia cruise ship, Francesco Schettino, has reportedly said the reason he was in a lifeboat while thousands of panic-stricken passengers and crew were trying to evacuate was because he “tripped” and fell into the rescue craft.

He said he got stuck in the lifeboat for an hour before it was lowered into the water off the coast of Giglio island.

Also with him was Dimitri Christidis, the Greek second in command of the Concordia and Silvia Coronica, the third officer, according to La Repubblica newspaper.

Italians have been transfixed by the release of dramatic audio tapes in which furious Coast Guard officials questioned why he was in a lifeboat rather than commanding the evacuation of 4,200 passengers and crew once it ran aground.

At one point a Coast Guard official, Gregorio De Falco, told him: "Get the ---- back on board." The phrase has been seized on by Italians on Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites and has been printed on T-shirts.

Wow, it is over 5 years since the tragedy,  it doesn't seem like it's been that long.

The captain has lost his final appeal and is going to prison.
