WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration has formally notified the United Nations that it will withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement, the first formal step in a one-year process to exit the global pact to fight climate change, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed on Monday. The United States, the world’s largest historic greenhouse gas emitter, would become the only country outside the accord, a decision President Donald Trump promised to boost U.S. oil, gas and coal industries.

There is a word in this sentence which is very important.   HISTORIC.     In the last 200 years the US is the largest single greenhouse gas emitter.  It is also the source of windmills ( GE) and solar panels. And the factory processes which produce the many innovations which have comprised “ green technology “. Further: US agriculture produces about 25 times more food than the US actually uses and thus enables the rest of the world to not burn fossil fuels to produce their own food.

Back to that word “ Historic” . Today would we claim that the US is the largest producer of greenhouse gas? ( The US has significantly reduced air pollution within its boarders since the 1970’s ) Or has that dubious distinction instead been passed to India or China?  And if that is the case then has the US already done more to correct the problem than similarly industrialized countries? Just bringing in some balance to the discussion.
