Crickets are said to have an after mating song.

  • According to the Wikipedia entry on crickets, in at least some species there is a “triumphal song” produced for a brief period after a successful mating, which may serve to reinforce the mating bond or discourage the female from leaving for another male.

Crickets are said to have an after mating song. I had a cricket as a lab animal once, but not for this observation. We used the cricket's chirp to track classroom temperature.

  • Studies of specific species (for example the sandy beach-dwelling ground cricket Dianemobius csikii) have documented multiple types of mating-related songs: a calling song, a courtship song, and a post-mating song.

Qapla’s Monday Night Special — 9:00 PM ET

“Behind the Scenes with John” — A Deep Dive You Didn’t Know You Needed

You think you know the Monday Zoom Chat? You don’t. This week, the man behind the curtain — John (aka Qapla)— finally steps out from the control panel (which may or may not be a folding table balanced on two buckets).

Meet John — the human Swiss Army knife.

He’s been a pizza maker, irrigation designer, wood miller, carpet layer, wallpaper hanger, floor installer, plumber, electrician — and just for kicks, he’s walked on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. He once worked with mopane, the African wood so dense it could make a submarine nervous. That’s right — he’s literally used lumber that could sink a boat.

Expect the unexpected:

  • A “shop tour” of his production secrets.

(Excerpt: “Well, I just log into Zoom… and they show up.”)

  • Stories from around the world — New Zealand, Brazil, the Philippines, Canada, and a few time zones that technically shouldn’t exist.

  • Cameos, crack-ups, and the occasional mystery hum that everyone pretends not to hear.

  • And maybe — just maybe — an explanation for why the best part of Monday happens at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

So grab your coffee, silence your notifications, and prepare for 60 minutes of finely milled fellowship and industrial-grade humor.

Because when John starts talking shop…

the world listens —

and that’s just in the first minute!

  • Aging:
As people age, the number of taste buds decreases and they become less sensitive.

    • Women may start experiencing changes around age 40, and men around age 50.

    • The ability to detect salty and sweet flavors is typically the first to weaken.

  • Lifestyle factors:
    • Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can negatively impact taste.

    • Illness, like the common cold or COVID-19, can temporarily affect taste.

  • Regeneration:
Your taste buds are constantly replaced. The cells turn over and are replaced about every 10 days.

  • Reduced number of taste buds: Older adults have fewer taste buds than younger people.

  • Less sensitive receptors: The remaining taste buds may be less sensitive, which can make food seem bland.

  • Decreased saliva: A dry mouth can make it harder to taste food.

  • Weakened sense of smell: The sense of smell is closely linked to taste. A reduced sense of smell can make food taste different.

How taste can be retrained
  • Adaptation:
Over time, your taste buds can adapt to different flavors. By regularly eating less salt or sugar, your body will eventually adapt to the lower levels, and those foods will taste good to you.

  • Consistent exposure:
You can train your taste buds to prefer certain flavors, like spicy or sour, by frequently exposing them to those tastes.

heliotropism: Light-sensing cells detect the direction of light, causing auxin to accumulate on the shaded side of the stem. This uneven distribution of auxin stimulates faster cell elongation on the shaded side, which forces the stem to bend towards the light source.

I love that Jehovah is never serious with me when answering my prayers. It makes me love him even more. Like for example last night (10/21) i had a heart to heart due to my lack of zeal and just feeling stuck and kinda wanting a nudge. I woke up today and read the daily scripture (James 2:17) i can kinda picture Jehovah being like “come on you goober, you know what you have to do.” A few weeks ago i also did something that i know Jehovah was disappointed with, the next day the daily scripture was about forgiveness. In the past he’s also answered prayers in ‘trolling’ ways (I asked for more money, i get stuck with two weeks of OT. I asked for patience, i get stuck behind slow people in the checkout line). I love that he answers me in ways that i know its him doing it which gives me strength and confidence that he hears me, i also love that he does it in a silly way i can see a friend doing it to me rather than a serious way as a parent probably would. I dont know if this makes sense but its just something that makes me happy i wanted to share.
