I find it odd that some people living in the west especially in rural communities don't lock their doors. A case in point.

Here in this low income country, you'll be shocked to see all dwellings in the housing area have affixed metal grills on their premises. Real hideous to see the whole house all grilled up. Other security measures include guard patrol on motorbikes, CCTV, movement activated lights, lights in the front and back at night, compounds all walled up, remote control gates etc.

I normally don't lock up my front gates so once my guest's leather shoes got stolen. Hasn't happened since some neighbours employed guards to patrol the streets.

Recently I was robbed by 2 persons on a bike right inside my compound. They followed me as I walked back from the bus stop about 300 m (1.8 miles) away. I had just opened my gate, thinking I was going to drive in my car that was parked near the field. My other car has stalled somewhere in the main road and I had to take a bus back in the dark at 8 pm.

I was relieved of my whole knapsack when the robbers lurched at me in the dark and I fell down on my knees. Fortunately they didn't take my trolley bag but there wasn't much in it.

My residence is a double story link house.

It must be so stressful living under those conditions. :(

Home invasions are on the rise here.

Drug addiction is driving more and more people to commit criminal acts to get money to purchase their drug of choice. :(

I am seriously considering locking our doors at night, which is when most home invasions occur.

One of our neighbors works for Children's Protective Services.  He says that the number of children being abandoned and neglected, because their parents are perpetually high on drugs, is appalling.  So sad.  :(

This wicked old system of things really needs to be wiped off the face of the earth and clean out of our memories.

Soon...very, very soon. :)

We only lock our doors at night, usually after 8PM or so.
My aunt and uncle are on a first name basis with most of their neighbors, as a few are even my uncle's relatives.
There are some drug people around which is why we have to be a little cautious and lock everything at night, but, like I said, most of the neighbors know us, so the people watch out for each other.

Thank Jehovah they didn't injure you... O Satan's world is becoming a nightmare... Over here, we usually joke that, each day we live, is a day for a year... Because when you go out, you don't know if you'll be reunited at the days end... Bad boys, Gangsters and cultists are everywhere, not to mention Armed Criminals ...  Last month a stray bullet hit and killed a brother going about his own business ... ( till today,no one has been arrested for it). Its terrible...

I suppose, we must work hard to make each day count.

Our house is 800 feet down a dirt driveway and not readily visible from the road. Although we lock our doors when we head to bed, we leave them unlocked when we are home and not asleep.

My nephew next door leaves his keys in his truck all the time when it is here on the property. I have left mine in my truck and didn't worry about it. We seldom lock our cars when we are home.

Your aunt and uncle are in the truth? Seems like you're well protected, in an extended family circle.
