18 References on Rutherford

Recommended Posts

It was a different time. People needed to know that it was worthwhile for them to come and listen to his lectures. Jehovah God saw fit to use him to do this work. These days there is no need (nor do we wish to) advertise the qualities of a specific speaker. The Bible is our main source, and we speak as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Who we are as private persons is pretty much irrelevant.

🎵“I have listened to Jesus in these troublesome days,

He lights up my path.

As I hear and obey.”

In 1915, Br. Rutherford wrote a booklet produced by the organization (printed by the IBSA).  It defended CT Russell on many accusations (including "miracle wheat". marital infidelity, education and so on).  It had pages of endorsements by well-known leaders, including General William Hall.  their statements and pictures were included. So here was another printed release with pages of personal references.

JF Rutherford needed all the good press he could gather.  He was disliked (even hated) by most politicians and religious leaders.  In the time from WW1 until WW2 (roughly 1914 until 1941) Rutherford pounded the opposition in print, by radio and by public speech (even records).  It was a time of confrontation.  Bold attacks on the enemies of God and Christ.  An Judge Rutherford was the person to do it.

His enemies sent him to the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary. They attacked him during speeches (like at Madison Square Garden). He needed a gauntlet of faithful brothers with batons to get him from his car to the stage at St. Louis.  If you look at his comments from just a few booklets he produced you can see why.  i just selected 4 from 1927-1930).  They are all in the tone of "religion is a snare and a racket".  Our future "hailstone" message can't be much more pointed...🙂

1929 - Judgement

1929 - Oppression

1930 - Crimes & Calamities
