Learning Hindi by listening to songs

Recommended Posts

I have always love the Hindi language because of the songs from the Bollywood films.  I find the language quite beautiful. Not quite as nice as the French language but nice enough to want  to speak it or do a sing a long. I'm also seeing quite a few HIndi speaking persons in this country. A nice way to learn about Indian culture and a way to connect with them.

@ivy  @Jay @Arumuga Raja  So how about recommending some nice songs to sing along and appreciate other friends' culture.

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

If I'm not mistaken, Urdu and Hindi are similar such that two people can understand each other if they speak.

@Arumuga Raja I also don't know Hindi, maybe a few words from watching Bollywood movies. Still I enjoy the songs. So does Sister Ivy. A lot of Bollywood fans in South East Asia who loves Hindi movies.

I'm sure you also see Hindi movies. Yes or No.

Pity no Western friends are interested in this thread, only 1 African and I South Indian. Sometimes I feel 🤔, my efforts setting up new threads that Westerners have no interest in. I guess we people from 3rd world countries are so poor in so many ways and have nothing to offer our more prosperous brothers and sisters in the high income countries. Ok, you're very busy, I understand. My bad.

I forgot my dear brother Glenn but he has native American blood and besides he always appreciates my meager offerings that are pretty much useless. I wonder if Jehovah likes Hindi songs. He does creates such gorgeously handsome South Indians heart throbs. it was Jesus's handiwork, you say? He has such exquisite taste. The ladies in SEA are eternally grateful.

These incredibly talented 'godlike' stars are the rage all over South East Asia. (an insignificant part of the world except for where Br. William the Great resides)

It's the fault of my faithful sidekick, Kaa the boa constrictor. He is my speech writer ever since my fall.  I always feel uncomfortable showing off my imaginary friend in case people view me in a negative way. Not happening any way in spite of my more innocent recent avatar. Can't hide the 🐘 in the room. 🤣 Don't take offence, kind folks. Just the ramblings of an embittered invalid

Proof read by Kaa's mistress for any negative comments. Job badly done with impaired Eskimo eyes. :chinese:That brain damaged owner needs to be kicked to the curb. AKA banned.

We have a thriving Hindi group here with many non native speakers supporting the group. We also have West African Pidgin and a few try to support that, too. Lots to do and learn, and I am sure many other western countries have local foreign language groups that are being supported in whatever languages being spoken locally

Sorry to read about your accident. Hope you feel better soon! Your learning Hindi and about it’s culture is a great idea! No physical obstacles there.:flowers:

Ahhh yes ... Bollywood ...  the colours and costumes and dancing all very mesmerizing. So short of watching a movie and having it with English subtitles...

Perhaps JW Library could also be a wonderful source for learning.  I have also downloaded the language app and found that helpful.

I have been trying to strengthen my vocabulary so I can converse better and witness with relatives in their mother tongue - for that I really found the JW Library great - just choosing the language of choice and I looked just now and to my surprise there are many of our original songs also in Hindi - even our movies (Remember the wife of Lot, King Josiah, Jonah) and white board animations.  If you were to have a transcript and follow along with the audio - I downloaded the Bible in Hindi (Roman) and there is currently just one book Joshua that has audio - but you could get real good at the book of Joshua 🙂 it truly is an incredible way getting to learn the language ♥️

And hoping each day brings you healing dear sister - so sorry to read of your fall.

My bible student is an 88 year man who is originally from Kerala, India. He grew up speaking Malayalam but was educated in English. Although JW.org has publications including the Bible is available  in his mother tongue, when I showed him the text, he kept saying the translators made mistakes with the words. But he doesn't appreciate that there are many sub dialects in the Malayalam languages. Hard to argue with him. We'll just stick with the original English version.

Thank you Sister Jenny for your kind words. Yes I'm getting a little better each day. Today I finally manage to go to hospital. Left house at 9 am. Because of covid restriction they don't allow walk ins. So had to go to the Government clinic and get a referral letter. But the appointment to see the ENT specialist is only on 30 December, a month away. Lousy 3rd world health facilities. Maybe because of covid they may have spaced out the appointments. So long to wait but I had medicines for my giddiness from the hospital and another prescription from the government clinic. Just such a hassle and took me the whole day to get the things done.

So sorry to hear of all the troubles - both frustrating and exhausting under the best of circumstances - so much more so when you are already physically taxed.

Living in Canada I am very grateful for our universal health care - but covid has definitely brought the standard of care to a much lower level than what we had over the years come to enjoy.  With both the shortages of family doctors and not being able to see a doctor in person the wait for just a phone appointment has gotten silly and then add a couple more weeks to see the doctor in person. We are just learning that there is still wonderful quick care for urgent issues like cancer but otherwise - sadly like yourself - quite a frustration with regular care.

May you get the help and rest needed for a good recovery. ♥️ Looking forward to the day where no resident - world wide - will say they are sick. ♥️
