I was talking to my mum yesterday, and I found out there is no equivalent in Greek (or Italian) to the expression “I’m bored” (as in when teenagers moan). It translates to “I’m annoyed” or “frustrated”, but not how we in English understand it. I found it interesting. Mum said they had no opportunity growing up to ever be bored as they used up all their precious free time doing something. They treasured their short breaks, just lapping up the sunshine before their mothers yelled at them to do more chores. There was always knitting, crocheting, etc to do as well.

It seems being “bored” is a concept was just for the idle rich, but that has come in to our western society as families became more richer and had more leisure time (or work as a security guard in a Russian art gallery. That’s just absurd!) 😳

In 2012 this news went viral in Spain. The local church in a small Spanish town named Borja had this Ecce Homo (i.e. a painting of Christ wearing the crown of thorns). It didn't have a huge value, either monetary or artistic, but its painter was somewhat renowned and the locals where very proud of it.

As you can see, the painting was quite deteriorated, so a neighbor who had done some amateur painting before decided to try and restore it. The results made this story viral and had the whole country laughing for months. (A lot of people say they prefer the restored version over the original.)

Oh yes!  I remember that Carlos.  I spawned a myriad of similar (photshopped) funny artworks 😁

Now that town is famous and that church receives thousands of visitors, many more than it ever did with the old painting. :)
